BBC: Doctor Who
« on: May 08, 2024, 12:55:57 PM »
Has anybody watched the recent iteration of the series Dr Who?

As you may recall, Dr who started way back in 1963 and ran thru 1989. They call that run the classic series.

In 2005, it was rebooted and the first series started and the latest series thirteen completed in 2021. This is now known as the modern series.

Now, on disney plus, the latest season, series fourteen will start on May 10th...

I remember seeing off and on the old black and white episodes but have not seen any of the reboot series or what they call the modern series..

Any thoughts?

I started watching a while back, including these Doctors:

  • Christopher Eccleston, 2005
  • David Tennant, 2005 – 2010
  • Matt Smith, 2010 – 2013
  • Peter Capaldi, 2013 – 2017

Very enjoyable!! I lost track, or interest, toward the end of the Capaldi era, and haven't watched much since then. It might take a little time to get the feel of the franchise, but definitely worth trying it out.

Thanks for the details. I will have to revisit the classic first season to refresh my memory of the series.

I wonder if I need to start from the first series of the modern era (2005 version) or can I just pick up at the 14th series on Disney Plus?

Hard to say. I started with the 2005/modern era. Not sure if the older ones would hold up to the test of time for me.

I may check out the first two episodes on disney plus for the 14th season once it starts and see if I need to go back to the first series from 2005.. Thanks for the inputs. :)

Yeah, I am not sure how the old black and white episodes will still be as enjoyable as they were back in the day but at that time, they were enjoyable from what I remember.

My wife and I did the same tour as you although we watched the first season with Jodi, but the writing wasn't very good and we gave up on it towards her the end of her first season.

Not impressed with the new series so far.   Both of the first two episodes featured babies.  Maybe a Disney influence?
