Target Dialing Back Physical Media Is Another Nail in the DVD Coffin

Following Best Buy's move this year, Target is apparently following suit, although according to the article they're not completely abandoned the format.  At least not this year.

Less choice for consumers is bad news.  Keep buying the stuff you love while you can.  Who knows how much longer we'll be able to?

It's not just Blu-rays / DVDs, of course.

Opening editorial in this month's Stereophile magazine is about CDs quickly disappearing now. Digital releases are taking over there too, and many performers are not necessarily even issuing a CD. I've got a big library of CDs, and ripped them all to a server over 15 years ago. But even there, I don't listen to the ripped CD - if it's available, I stream it via Tidal. (Part of that is streaming gives at least a little extra to the artist as opposed to the CD which is a sunk cost but gives nothing more to the artist when I play it.) Vinyl famously has had a comeback but not everything is pressed in that format.

I don't know about that. I had four 4K Blu-rays arrive this week, and another 2 are coming next week. I'm doing my part.
