Panasonic PT-RQ13K - Any Owners Here

Panasonic PT-RQ13K - Any Owners Here
« on: April 04, 2024, 04:15:00 PM »
I now have one of these mounted in my small HT and was wondering if anyone has experience with the Panasonic RQ series projectors.

I've had my HT since 1999 when we were doing CRT projector and I've owned some of every type projector including a Barco Sim 10 just for the heck of it but none of my previous projector holds a candle to this RQ13K.

The corn can is just for size reference and now I just need to fix the hole in the ceiling from my previous projector mount

No info but just... holy cow, looking at the specs on that model is pretty interesting. 3DLP laser with 5K x 3K res, wow. It has more than enough resolution to do 4K but as a 2015 model of course it isn't directly compatible unless you have some kind of PC / data type connection, it looks like? 10K lumen PJ for a "small" HT? I assume you got it for far less than the $93K "street price" shown... ;D

It has "QUAD Drive" which you can turn on/off at anytime in order to enable the 5K X 3K res. It doesn't require any special PC. I have it connected to my Marantz 8805 audio processor via HDMI.  My project came with the HDMI module installed and it only had 1024 hour on the projector. I have the lumen output set to the lowest predefined setting which is "Long Life3" so the light output is at 20% with a max output of 60%.  Even at this low setting it's still plenty enough bright on my 120" Acoustic Seymour 0.8 gain screen.

I won it from an auction house. Here is the original auction listing:

I got it for pennies on the dollar because no one else placed a bid on it. This projector has allot going on in the menu system so I was hoping someone else might be more familiar with this level of Panasonic projector but I can tell you this, it has a built in light output/color sensor so the picture looks very good out the box.

Wow, very cool. The manual is almost 250 pages! Looks like it does have 4K support on some level. I'd be very curious if a newer HDMI / SDI board is upgradeable. This seems like it's just begging for a MadVR Envy or something to put in front of it.

Yes 108 lbs can be considered heavy but I'm from the old days of CRTs, I eat a 108 lbs projectors for breakfast. I don't get excited until a project reach 220 lbs. I just like my projector with BIG OL Butts

Also the hush box is made from the original shipping flyaway case and the 40DB projector is now nice and quiet.  This projector produces a picture which rivals an OLED TV. With the PJ in the hush box sometime it feels like I'm watching a 120" OLED TV.

I'm so happy to finally achieve a beautiful 3 Chip DLP projector. Yes, the dark scene could be better but I just pick movie which only involve day light and I watch allot of the 4K & 8K scenic stuff on YouTube.
