Disney Strikes Deal for Sony to Take Over Its DVD, Blu-ray Disc Business

Interesting development.  One wonders if it will result in more or fewer titles showing up in the market.  Maybe we'll see more of the older 20th Century Fox appear?

Bill Hunt has posted more information, including that the Disney Movie Club will be ending as of 5/20/24.

EXCLUSIVE: Disney & Sony Ink Deal for Sony to Take Over Disney’s Physical Media Production, Disney Movie Club to Shut Down as a Result [UPDATED] (thedigitalbits.com)

He also said that Sony will be taking over authoring and compression.  Could that mean an improvement of their soundtracks?

Probably means more titles and better quality - Sony usually does a great job on discs!

I wouldn't count on it. Disney will be getting a significant cut of the action and Sony won't be doing this for free. I e been gone all week for work, so I have t reached out to my contact at Disney to see how this impacts him personally. I hope he still has a job after this.
