JVC NZ9 (4100) with Envy MotionAI

JVC NZ9 (4100) with Envy MotionAI

I really wanted to point this out. I was able to do some critical testing with a NZ9 and MadVR Envy Extreme (MK2) sending in 4K120. I can say without a moment of hesitation this is the best image we have seen to date. I have always been a fan of the Sony projectors in the past (still am) mainly do to their fluid motion. Now adding the MotionAI I am able to get the amazing image from JVC and the terrific motion from Sony (or even better.) This is the perfect combination. Checking out the Equalizer 3 was next level. The scenes at night especially. On a side note the sound is also terrific in this one. I really liked it when the “bad guys” were zooming off on their motorcycles and you could hear them around the room. The jarring music set the perfect vibe during it too! As for motion, slow panning and of course fight scenes were very smooth. The Envy has plenty of of options to tweak to your liking. As does the JVC so you can set it and forget it and enjoy the show. More pics coming soon…

I've got a similar setup, with NZ9, using an HDMI 2.1 connection with the Envy, getting MotionAI at 120 fps, and am really liking what I see. Did a full audio upgrade over the last year, with a ChadB video and audio calibration the week before last, and I'm in home theater heaven now!

I was pretty late to the party on the Equalizer movies, and before buying, found a way to stream each of them, on 3 different streaming services, of course! Enjoyed them quite a bit. We're about to finish the 2nd season of Reacher on Amazon, and find the same guilty pleasure of the good guys beating up the bad guys there as well! :P

Expecting similar fluid motion with a next level image watching The Beekeeper tonight. The wife loves Jason Statham so no matter what she will have “eye candy.”

I will also be testing out the Marantz AV10 with the presentation. Should be a fun night...

You aren't making movies shot on film @ 24fps look like General Hospital I hope. :-X

No worries here! The Envy allows very granular fine-tuning of the smoothing effect to avoid this. The fact that it is sending 120 fps doesn't equate to more SOE, but it does allow more more artifact free motion, and is computationally more efficient than 60 fps.

I had a friend over a few weeks ago, who was mainly interested in seeing MotionAI in action. He said he is particularly sensitive to SOE in general, and after watching quite a few clips, he said he only perceived a tiny bit of SOE in only one or two of them, and was otherwise very impressed with the motion improvements. I had my Envy on the middle of 5 available levels, so I could have gone to a lower level to completely eliminate any SOE while still maintaining the benefits of the Envy's motion handling, as well as the 'filmic' experience most are looking for.

My friend's experience seems mirrored by the reports I get from others who are using MotionAI, so I think this will end up being a very useful and desired feature. And Mathias is still actively working to improve it even further.

Definitely not like General Hospital or any other soap opera program. The JVCs accepting 120 allows for ultra smooth fluid like motion while maintaining that film look movie aficionados love. You really need to see one sometime. It is next level for movies…
