The Equalizer 3 (4K UHD Blu-ray) review

The Equalizer 3 (4K UHD Blu-ray) review
« on: November 17, 2023, 11:07:54 AM »

Studio: Sony Pictures
 Release Date: November 14, 2023
 Rating:  R
 Film:  4/5

 Plot
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.

 My Thoughts
I was slow to warm to this franchise. While I liked the first film a lot more the second time through, I was initially turned off by the gratuitous violence depicted. I have a lot of the same feelings with the third installment. It seems as if the violence/gore factor has been increased even more and the first fifteen minutes of the movie had my wife covering her eyes due to the graphic images.

The story itself is quite good and the location of the shoot is absolutely beautiful and is a place that looks like it would be interesting to visit as a tourist. Washington does his usual bang-up job as the ex-CIA operative looking to exact some justice on the mobsters terrorizing his new hometown. The action is intense and McCall certainly knows how to put his certain set of skills to work.

There are literally no complaints to have with the A/V on this disc. It’s perfect from beginning to end.

 Video 10/10
 Audio 10/10 (Dolby Atmos)

 Special Features:

  • Over 15 Minutes of Deleted Scenes
  • Blood Brothers: The Collaboration of Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua
  • Call To Action
  • Robert McCall: A Man of the People
  • Denzel and Dakota: A Reunion
  • Postcards from the Amalfi Coast
  • Jacob Banks “Monster” Lyric Video
  • UHD + Blu-ray + Digital Copy

 Conclusion
My wife and I really enjoyed this even though the violence and gore were a bit over the top in the first act. What’s funny is it didn’t bother us as much towards the end of the film and I think that’s because we felt the villains were getting exactly what they deserved—unmerciful justice! The 4K presentation is about as good as it gets with visually perfect video and a Dolby Atmos track to die-for. Highly recommended.

Looking forward to this one.  I didn't like the first on that much, but really liked the second one.

Sounds like this one is demo material, as well as a good story.
