Little info about my theater
« on: November 15, 2023, 11:26:35 AM »
I run a 7.6.4 system with front three speakers in a baffle wall setup. My three LCR's are behind a power masking 2.37 AT screen and behind the grill cloth below the screen. I also have two 18" subs in the baffle wall. Where the front left and right speakers are located, the baffle wall is angled to aim the speakers toward the listeners. I built all of the speakers and subs in my room. The front three speakers and the subs are from scratch and the surround and atmos speakers were kits.

I run my LCRs full range. Each LCR contains the following:

One Acoustic Elegance TD18H+
Two Acoustic Elegance TD12M
One Beyma TPL-150H
Active crossover is a DBX PA2

My side and rear surround speakers are Sealed Volt 10's and my atmos speakers are ported Volt 8's. My subs are all sealed subs. Two 18's in front baffle using Stereo Integrity HT-18's and four 18" subs right behind the seating. The subs in the back of the room are two UM18-22 in 4.0CF sealed, Maelstrom-X18 in 4.0CF sealed and an REXXX 18" in 8.0CF sealed. The SI 18's are in 3.4CF sealed. I am using a MiniDSP 10x10HD for delay and PEQ.

Sub power
The REXXX is powered by a Crest 9200 bridged on a 30amp 220 volt circuit.
The two UM18-22's are powered by an iNuke NU6000.
The Maelstrom-X18 is powered by an iNuke NX6000 bridged.
The two Stereo Integrity HT-18's are powered by a Behringer EP4000.

Speaker power
The mids and tweeters in my LCR's are powered by a Buck Eye Hypex NC252MP six channel amp.
The LCR woofers are powered by Crown XLS-1002.
Surrounds and atmos powered by AVR

Processing is being done by an Integra DRX-8.4, using Dirac Live for room correction. I am really impressed with this AVR. It is a huge improvement over the Marantz AV7703 that I was using. I am using the XLR outputs for my LCR and my subs.

Video
Projector is a JVC RS4100
Video processing and aspect ratio control is being done by a Lumagen 4242.
I am also using a Panamorph DCR lens.
Screen is a Seymour Screen Excellence 2.37 Trim L110 with Neo fabric. This is a power masking screen.

I have three black leather power reclining seats. Bought them so long ago, that I do not even remember what they are. My viewing distance is 9' from my screen. I have black velvet floor to ceiling curtains on side and back walls. I also have a black velvet curtain above my screen. Have black velvet panels on the ceiling at the front of room and black cloth covered absorption panels on ceiling and back wall of the room. Have bass traps in the two back corners.

If anyone would like to come visit I am located in south central KY. Would be happy to demo the system for you.

First picture is front of room with screen and LCR woofers not in place (TD18H+). You can see the LCR mids and tweeters and the two SI 18 subs in the baffle wall.

Second picture is with my old curved screen in place and grill that covers LCR woofers not in place.

Third picture is front of room with the current masking screen and grill covering woofers in place.

Man, I love those types of in-wall builds. It really gives a pro cinema look to your HT.

How far apart are your L and R speakers? Just curious as you are sitting a good bit closer than I do.

Technically not an In wall. But I agree I have similar but I never put the plywood over the studs. Just have it packed with Insulation

Center to center is about eight feet apart.

Current changes and projects I am working on.

1. Moved two 18" subwoofers, to the side walls. One below left surround and one below right surround. Using an active crossover, I have given the side surrounds full range capability. But am crossing them to my subs at 30hz. Doing this in preparation for Dirac Art.

2. Moved one 18" sub to another room. This leaves me with the two 18's in the baffle wall, paired as one sub and the REXXX 18" at the back of the room. Dirac bass control is working great with this setup.

3. I use a first surface mirror to increase throw in my room. I have a recessed area at the back of the room, for the mirror. It has always sat on rubber pads and leaned at the correct angle against rubber pads. After Dirac live bass control, I was getting better summed bass in my room. It would vibrate the mirror and make it look like my screen was jumping up and down. Mirror always stayed in the correct position, but was annoying. So I built a simple mirror mount. Used four slotted "L" clips, four glass mounts, fours bolts, eight rubber washers and eight nuts. Now the top, bottom, left or right side can be moved in or out. Full adjustability and locked in placed once you tighten the nuts. Works great, no more image movement. I do need to clean the hand print off the mirror, but it is outside the image area, so no hurry.

3. Am building a new sub to replace the 18" REXXX, The new sub will have two HT24 (24") drivers in a sealed enclosure. The new sub will be powered by a CVR D-3302 amp. A 2-channel amp based off of powersoft design. Does 5,600 watts per channel @ 4 ohms. Powered by a 220 volt 30 amp circuit. I have the drivers and the amp. Just waiting on the GSG flat pack.

4. Considering replacing the two 18's in the baffle wall with four 18's in an infinite baffle system. I have had sealed and I have had ported subs in my room. I have never had infinite baffle. I don't really need the bass. I just am curious. Only thing holding me back is the concern of how much additional bass will be transferred to the rest of the house. I already transfer a lot of bass to the rest of the house now and will be even more with the dual 24's. Only reason I am considering this is to balance the bass output up front. The other option I am considering is dual 24's up front in an infinite baffle design.

Hardly notice it hiding behind the seats. :) I still have to install the Speakon connector. The one I bought, I did not like. The tabs were too thin. Have one arriving tomorrow, then I will be able to start setting up this sub. https://i.imgur.com/tlqm1LP.jpeg

Now that I have the new sub in place, I have made changes to the system. I have moved the two UM18 sealed subs to the side left and right side walls and actively paired them with my volt 10 surrounds. This now makes them capable of being full range speakers. I did this in preparation of Dirac ART. This gives me five lower level speakers that will be able to help tame bass response in the room, along with using my subs.

Tactile impact from the dual 24" sub is very good. Does not require running a lot of boost on the subs. Room is sounding and feeling very good.
