The Boys (Season 3) Blu-ray review

The Boys (Season 3) Blu-ray review

Studio: Sony / Amazon Studios
Release Date: October 24, 2023
Rating: PG-13
 Film:  4/5

 Plot
It’s been a year of calm. Homelander’s subdued. Butcher works for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. So when The Boys learn of a mysterious Anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into The Seven, starting a war, and chasing the legend of the first superhero: Soldier Boy.

My Thoughts
Alas, this is a show that I must watch by myself because the missus finds it too crude and disgusting. She does have a point in this regard because as cutting edge as the show was in its first two seasons, it crosses the line even further in season three and ups the kink factor to a borderline unacceptable level. When you see a particular scene that crosses this threshold, you’ll have zero doubt of the one I’m referring to. Despite that on scene, The Boys continues to entertain in its third season as Butcher and the boys look to finally bring down Vought International.

The show definitely looks better on disc than streaming it through Amazon Prime. There’s more depth in the image and its never bit-starved. The same can be said with the audio, which is more nuanced and has greater dynamics. Streaming has come a long way over the past five years, but it still can’t match the overall A/V quality found on discs.

Video 4.5/5
 Audio 4.5/5  (DTS-HD MA 5.1)

 Special Features:

  • Gag Reels
  • Deleted and Extended Scenes
  • The Making of Featurette

 Conclusion
It’s been about 15 months since the show was on Amazon and it still seems to be very popular. Season 4 was green lit a week after the Season 3 debut, but with the writers/actor’s strike interrupting the flow of new content out of Hollywood, it’s unknown when the fourth season will hit the streaming service. In the meantime, you can get caught up with the latest season featuring the best audio and video available on disc versus the crippled stream over the Internet. Highly recommended for fans of the show.

My wife and I have been through Seasons One and Two. Calling the series as a whole Cutting Edge is putting it kindly. :)

Now that the strike has slowed things down, we'll have to give Season Three a binge viewing. Thanks for the review, David.

Funny thing...........when I saw your review on the list of new posts, the first thing that came to mind was, "I bet David watched that one alone".
