Some questions about the Lumagen
« on: September 20, 2023, 03:26:37 PM »
I’d like a bit more information on the Lumagen radiance pro.  What I see on You Tube is that it adjusts the image ratio to fit your screen. I am sure it does more.  Will it make my picture better? Sharper? Brighter?

Also, Do I plug my individual video components (Cable, Apple, Panasonic 4K player) directly into it and the Lumagen  gets connected to my McIntosh AV processor which goes to my JVC projector.  This would mean changing the inputs all the time. And harder for my family.

Or does the McIntosh’s output get connected to the Lumagen and the Lumagen ios connected to the projector.

And if the HDMIs from my sources gets connected to the Lumagen, what happens to the audio? How does that connect the McIntosh?

Thanks again!

You can connect it either way but usually the processor goes before the lumagen. So the processor would still do the switching

It does aspect ratio switching but the DTM is best in business

It made my PJ look like I bought a brand new Pj. It’s that good.

Thanks!  What is DTM?
It’s the single most important function the lumagen brings to the table. It’s outstanding. Make my 130” screen look like a giant plasma.
the auto aspect switching. The non linear stretch. The upscaling. All are all icing on the cake for me. It’s def a component. I didn’t know I needed. And now couldn’t live without.

I'm really curious to see what kind of tone mapping improvements we'll see with the upcoming JVC firmware update.

It probably won't compare to either the Lumagen or madVR, but I wonder how much closer it will get.

Just two months to find out. . .

I was wondering that too. The update comes out in November. I like my JVC and it’s hard to believe that there will be a miraculous improvement.  It you never know.

Usually nothing miraculous. More like less scenes that clip, or are too dark, or blown out. More refinement. The JVC firmware also changes the laser power settings and provides a setting backup method. All good improvements.

JVC implementing good DTm is awesome. But no it def won’t be better than what the lumagen or madvr can do.

It’s just jaw dropping.

No doubt the new firmware won't match the Lumagen or madVR, the question is how close it can get.

Will we see it achieve 80%?  If so, that would be fine with me.  Or will it just be a modest improvement?

We'll just have to wait a two or three months to find out.

the best part of the lumagen is it will 100% out live any PJ i have.  and they are way ahead of the PQ curve than JVC will ever be.  and its free upgrades constantly
