I was looking at the installation diagrams for the Cima fixed wall screens.   Looking at the wall mounting bracket, does it allow the screen frame to slide to the left or right for precise positioning?   If so, how wide is the mounting bracket for a 138 inch 2.35 screen?   I didn't see any measurement in the diagrams.

So I am audiophile and a videophile trying to get the best of both worlds with my screen, impossible I know.

My speaker are going to be in front of the screen as they are dipoles. However, ideally I would have a screen which would allow me to put acoustic products (diffusors or absorption) behind the screen in order to treat the front wall.

I have tested every weave/mesh based product that I can get my hands on and to be honest I haven't been too excited about the visual quality. The artifacts are typically lowered sharpness, visible pattern, or sheen/sparkle. I often use my screen for computer work so the drop in sharpness is noticeable.

So I'm considering these options:

1) Forget about treatments and go with Studiotek 100 in a fixed frame. Perhaps build some mobile treatments on stands that I can position during music listening.

2) Go with Studiotek 100 microperf X2 in a fixed frame with treatments behind the screen. Concerns are visible texture due to the holes and I'm not sure how effective the treatments will be behind the screen? I'm mostly interested in 600-4000hz so high frequencies aren't a huge concern.

3) Go with Studiotek 100 in an electric screen which comes down in front of the treatments. My concern here is finding a way to have a nice black overscan area when aspect ratios are changed.

My plan is for a 2.40:1 screen approx 14-14.5' wide. Closest seating distance is around 12 feet.

Treatment behind a microperf screen help with the sound from the speakers behind the screen, but will do very little in the way of help with speakers placed in front of the screen. Image wise, ST100 will provide the best image, but you do not say what projector and it takes a lot of lumens to light up a 14'-14.5' wide screen, so not sure that the ST100 would work for you. Also if the ST100 will not work, then none of the woven AT screens will. Though the woven AT screens would allow you to treat the area behind the screen effectively, removing the huge reflection point of the screen.

Sounds to me that your best bet would be to go with an electric screen. Then it comes down to how to mask the scope image down to 16:9. You would either need to buy a masking screen or DIY. If DIY, you could use curtains, sliding panels or drop down blinds.

Another vote for the Studiotek 100 in an electric screen. I've been extremely happy with my Stewart electric screens over the years.

I'm thinking down the road where something like an RS4500 would be in use.  Right now I have a JVC RS1 and at a rated 700 lumens on a Highpower 2.8 screen of this same size it is more than bright enough for me.  So I think an RS4500 on a 1.0 gain screen should be plenty bright as well?

If I go the electric screen route, then getting it slightly oversized and using my own masking seems like a good choice.  The screen could essentially come down behind a frame or I could use curtains as suggested.

Obviously this is a lot of work so I'm going to test front wall treatments and see if the benefits are worth the hassle.

I will say that I'm growing annoyed of any screen texture which is why I'm looking at the ST100.  I have been producing my own content using high end cameras resulting in exceptionally clean footage.  Even the V6 material shows texture/sheen under these circumstances.

Of course I'll need to see a sample of ST100 as well....

Samples have been requested. Yes, I think the RS4500 would throw a great image on a 14' wide ST100.

               For a Cima Fixed Frame 138S, you will have a hanging bar that is 65.5" wide.  The hanging bar slides into the back of the frame, so yes they can move the frame back and forth to make adjustments.  I would try not to go too far off center, but the bracket will have plenty of adjustment.

Have you got a ship date for that screen? I have a customer wanting it. I thought it was a great looking screen. I could not see any artifacts.

Mike, I will check tomorrow on ship date release. Just a reminder. Please make sure your customers have the proper throw distance for this screen. For successful use, the minimum throw is 1.8 X screen width.

So I received my screen sample of StudioTek 100 today and i am a little confused.  The sample has two sides, one with a label that says "Studiotek 100" and the other side which is blank.

If I view the labeled side, the result is noticably brighter than my Da-Lite Matte White sample.  The image also has a slight sparkly look to it which is evident on bright scenes with panning.  This is the artifact that I'm looking to avoid.

If I flip the sample over and view the other side, the image is a little bit dimmer and has zero sparkle texture that I can identify.  This side looks amazing and it is what I want.

So which side is correct?  Or did I accidentally receive a sample of Studiotek 130 instead that was not labeled properly?  Or do I just prefer the backside of Studiotek 100?
