Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed
This is a funny place to begin, but I enjoy CBS’s Sunday Mornings, a 90 minute magazine that has many interesting stories each week.. A couple of weeks ago they did a segment on the HBO Max documentary,” “Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed.” It made us want to see it although we knew little about him.
The boring documentary shows that he was a big Hollywood star at one time, was gay, developed AIDS and died from it. Very little else. Of course, as with all these documentaries, they made him out to be one of the biggest and most important stars in Hollywood and zoomed to great fame, yet never showing the steps. Or anything negative.
I remember seeing and enjoying, “Ice Station Zebra” with him but little else. So I went to Wikipedia to see a list of his movies. Well, I learned more from Wikipedia about his rise and real fall from movies (before AIDS); the lawsuits, and everything else in ten minutes then what we saw in repetitive documentary. This documentary constantly took scenes from his movies that could, kinda, reflect on what they were saying. For example, every time he used the word “gay” (meaning happy) in a film, the documentary put that in.
