The great MGM musicals were shot in the old Technicolor process and would look absolutely wonderful in 4k. I'm especially thinking of "The Band Wagon" (1953) which, in 2023, would be it's 70th anniversary year although it is really timeless. It is considered to be one of the greatest from MGM and would think that this three time oscar nominated production would at least be honored by a 4K restoration.
Agreed. Singing In The Rain looks stunning in 4K, as does The Wizard Of Oz. It would be great to get more. Chicago needs a 4K / Dolby Atmos remaster, as does Moulin Rouge!
Have we lost interest in the Hollywood musical? It seems that all the issues and reissues of films pertain to horror, adventure, science fiction, etc. Everything but the precious Hollywood System of past catalogue titles except for some very few. So what happens. These precious productions so well regarded in the past and loved are just languishing away in some vault not to be touched due to lack of profits by actually working on them so as to present them in the best possible venue to the public. Doesn't anyone in authority care? It seems not.
