Plot Tulsa King follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi, (Stallone) as he’s released from prison after 25 years and unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Realizing that his mob family may not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a crew from a group of unlikely characters to help him establish a new criminal empire in a place that to him might as well be another planet.
My ThoughtsAnother great show from the mind of Taylor Sheridan—what a surprise. I had heard good things about this and went in with high expectations and they were definitely met. While it was hard at first to not hear Rocky as a mobster, Stallone’s character quickly grew on me and the supporting cast is excellent as well. My only gripe is the story moves along a little too briskly and certain aspects could have been fleshed out a bit further. Granted, each episode is less than 40 minutes in length, so there’s a trade-off by losing that extra 10-15 minutes per episode that’s more typical for streamed shows. Regardless, this is an interesting take on the “fish out of water” story with a New York mobster trying to make his way in middle America.
The presentation is solid throughout with no real complaints outside of a couple audio anomalies. On a few occasions, the dialog sounded a bit strained, although my wife didn’t complain about it. The video is sharp and focused throughout the show and is extremely clean.

Conclusion I’m a sucker for mob stories and I really enjoyed this different take on the genre. While there are aspects to the story that are very far-fetched, I found myself wildly entertained by the story and can’t wait to see where they take things next season. Highly recommended.
