Since you have both a Cima Neve and a StudioTek 130, how would you compare the two?
Thanks. I had seen an older version of that report that pretty much was responsible for ending consideration of the Carada Brilliant White. What I found interesting in this year's report was that the Cima Neve seems to measure out at a higher gain than published. Almost equal to the 130. Do you think the Neve is smoother than the 130 with less shimmering or don't you see any in either material? From the Stewart web site it appears the Neve is only available in the Cima Neve series with standard sizes. But in 16:9, 123" would be smaller than I want and 135" would be getting to be too large. If I wanted a 130" I would have to go with a custom sized Deluxe Wallscreen and the 130 material.
The Studiotek 130 is a little smoother. I see shimmering at times - in the brightest portion of the picture - on pretty much any screen with gain. It's the nature of screens that have gain. That said, the increase in brightness and " punch " gain adds to the picture, and the fact it sends less light onto the side walls, ceiling and floor ( which helps to not wash out the picture from room reflections ) offsets the shimmer in my opinion. We can always send you some screen samples if you want to see them for yourself !
Thanks, but not until after I paint the screen wall black. I thought I would have completed that by now but we are having an unseasonably warm autumn so far and the golf course in my back yard keeps me busy.
Have you thought about just covering the screen wall with Black Commando cloth? We did this on our wall behind the screen and it worked better than flat black paint did, plus we decided to add Roxul to the whole wall behind the speakers. This IMO helped with the sound of music as it appears to give more separation.
In addition to painting the screen wall black and side walls a dark gray, I plan to hang floor to ceiling black "velvet" curtains on the screen wall on each side of the screen. The room is not a dedicated theater and has an open 40 foot length with 2 windows and a patio door. So I will hang floor to ceiling black blackout curtains on the side walls from the front to the end of the seating area, and also over the remaining window and door.
