Light Meters
« on: February 14, 2017, 03:58:17 PM »
I have an AEMC CA813 light meter that has worked well. I've had it for several years now though, which made me wonder if it was still accurate. I was going to get it calibrated, but that's not cheap, so I ordered a Sper Scientific 840020 Light Meter with a Certificate of Calibration Traceable to N.I.S.T. - not too expensive on Amazon. Anyway, so far, they both read identical numbers. Sothe good news is my AEMC CA813 is apparently just as accurate as the new light meter with an N.I.S.T. certificate !

I'll test it out further tomorrow ( watching " Amelie " for Valentines Day tonight ) !

If anyone has experience with other light meters, post it here. Now I can say that the DR light meter brought here reads higher for sure.

Further testing revealed that they don't read the same, except on the kitchen counter, under an incandescent light. In front of my projector, the CA813 reads way low. The new light meter has a certificate of compliance, so I'm officially saying the CA813 is off.

Craig, which 'source' setting do you use your 840020 on?  Choices are florescent, mercury, sodium and tungsten/unknown.  If I use the latter I get a much lower reading than my CA813.
JVC-RS4500 4k projector, Lumagen Pro, ST130 138" scope screen,
Panasonic DMP-UB900 & Plex Media Server
Classe SSP-800, Bryston amplification, Wilson Audio speakers (7.2) + Buttkickers.

Mine doesn't have a source choice - http://www.sperdirect.com/scart/public/database/repository/other/Instruction_Manuals/840020-i.pdf

Did you get a 840022 ? http://www.sperdirect.com/scart/public/database/repository/other/Instruction_Manuals/840022-i.pdf
You might call Sper and ask them.

Ahh, yes, mine is a 840022.  Thanks, I'll ask them.
