The Powerball jackpot has officially set another new world record.

The jackpot is now estimated at $1.9 billion, with a cash option of $929.1 million, according to Powerball, ahead of the next drawing Monday.

Personally, I always thought the lottery was a tax on the poor but just for fun, if money was no object, what Home Theater AV would you get?

Hmmm, I'm not sure what I would buy but I would certainly build a new house with a purposefully-built media room stocked with all sorts of AV goodies. Everything (equipment, speakers, acoustic treatments, projector) would be hidden.

I wonder what the after tax take home would be from the cash payment - $400 million? I'd move to Nevada, build a new house with a purpose built home theater - probably a Christie Eclipse. Going to need a private shooting range ( acreage ) and a walk in gun vault for all the machine guns I'd buy too! 8) And the price of wine I buy would be going up! ;D

After Federal taxes your take home pay would be $585,000,000 on the $930,000,000 that you won.  Of course there are state taxes, so in NY I would take home $484,098,145.

I think my financial advisor would say " go ahead and buy an Eclipse. Two if you want even ! "

I would welcome you back down South, Barry. I'm in a valley surrounded by mountains, really near your home state.

You would love it here, and we would have the best movie nights.

Dreaming about winning the lottery is half the fun of buying a ticket, but save your money....I'm winning and I`ll build everyone here a theater...there would be more than enough money to share the dream with friends!

Ha, I thought about this in some detail several months ago when there was a big prize. I never buy lottery tickets but for that one I spent $20 on it. And won $4, so hey I guess I can use that for the new one!

I'd definitely have to build the house and room for the dream HT first. But I wouldn't go too overboard, and I wouldn't do it somewhere new. I'd build close to friends and folks I want to actually hang out with. I basically figured I'd keep around $15-20M, enough to build that dream home and then live on modest returns, then have fun giving away the rest to folks or things I like.
