I would like to get your opinions on this: I am a big baseball fan and a fan of the original movie, “A League of Their Own.” I felt that the movie had an interesting story, a nostalgic look of the era it represented, a terrific cast. I especially liked Gary Marshall as the owner, but Hanks, Davis, Madonna and O’Donnell were terrific. I have seen the movie more than a dozen times. I did look forward to the Amazon TV series. Frankly, I found it a bit boring and out of sync. I did not get a nostalgic feeling for the era because it concentrated on modern issues. The story did not seem to center on baseball, in fact, baseball seemed to be a bit player here, with none of the scenes genuine. Bin the beginning, instead of introducing us to totally new characters, in many cases, they seemed to have attempted to "clone" the original cast, but they didn't come near it.The original movie did have 30 seconds where racism was addressed and they did that rather well. Here, the story seems to center around the racism, having little to do with the peaches, and gay relationships. These themes seem to dominate the series and take me out of it, if you know what I mean. These issues are important but whole movie seemed out of sync, out of its own time to me. It was placing modern characters and concepts into the 1940s. So it lost me. Oh well, there is no sighing in baseball.
A little bit of anachronistic attitudes and so on is hard to avoid, especially the farther back you go in history - which usually takes you farther away from modern attitudes and would make some things REALLY hard to watch. But yeah it seems we're in a time where too many shows pound it constantly. I don't like heavy handed didacticism whether it's coming from a religious place or woke or whatever.
