Infinite (UHD Blu-ray) review

Infinite (UHD Blu-ray) review

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: May 17, 2022
Rating: PG-13
Film: 2/5

Plot
Based on the book The Reincarnationist Papers by D. Eric Maikranz and directed by Antoine Fuqua, INFINITE is a race against time in the fight between good and evil through spectacular visuals and nuanced characters who must use memories and skills from past lives to protect the future of humanity. Alongside Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor, INFINITE stars Sophie Cookson, Jason Mantzoukas, Rupert Friend, Liz Carr, with Toby Jones and Dylan O’Brien.

My Thoughts
I generally like both Walburg’s and Ejiofor’s movies, but wow was this on a miss. First off, the character development is severely lacking in the first act, which is understandable once you get about 45 minutes into the movie, but in all honesty, by this time it’s hard not to be checked-out of what’s going on. I was able to fight through it but my wife literally fell asleep after she stopped complaining about how stupid the movie was—and she wasn’t wrong. The film starts with a short monologue and then jumps right into a chase sequence and you little idea of who’s who—to add insult to injury, you really don’t get any answers for far too long.

On the plus side, the acting is competent and the direction from Fuqua is very good, but there’s only so much he can do with the material presented. I think the true fault lies in the writing and a bit more of a backstory going into the movie would have helped things a lot.

The presentation is quite good, but not quite up to reference-quality. The LFE is the best aspect of the entire proceedings, but even that effort falls short of truly reference presentations.

Video 8/10 (AVC)

Audio 8/10 (Dolby Atmos)

Special Features:

  • They Call Themselves Infinites
  • The Kinetic Action of Infinite
  • Anatomy of a Scene—Police Station & Forest
  • Infinite Time
  • UHD + Digital Copy

Conclusion
I like check your brain at the door action films as much as the next guy, but this one just didn’t resonate with me. By the end I found a way to find its redeeming qualities, but they were too few to invest more time in watching it a second time, which is why I’d rent this one first before deciding on a purchase.

It’s crazy how an actor can read a script like this and still go ahead with making it
