I was able to setup the speakers as well as all the hdmi hookups: got sound and video for sony ps4, nintendo switch, oppo blu ray player, google ultra chromecast as well as Nintendo Wii U.

But, I can't get sound for TV broadcast channels. Video is there but no sound.

I have one hdmi cable going from the TV to the receiver, hdmi out port so this is good for all the connections, sound and video.

I also have one coaxial digital audio cable to the receiver, digital audio out doesn't do anything and I tried digital audio in as well but no luck.

All wires are connected, nothing missing...

TV has external speakers selected yet no sound.

Any ideas?

Is ARC (Audio Return Channel) activated in the AVR (and on the TV)?

Thanks David,

I have no idea about ARC (Audio Return Channel), whether it is activated or not.

Let me see where to look first. TV or Receiver or both. :)

Hi David and Tracy,

With your help, I was able to resolve this issue.

First, ARC was turned off on the TV.

Below is what I did for the TV.

Turned Speaker input to Receiver.

I then went to advanced settings and turned on Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) to on

I then went to advanced settings and set Audio Format to PCM

Now, the TV was setup correctly.

I then went to NAD. My remote died even with new batteries, so had to manually go thru the display screen which is a pain to do.

Within the Control setup, I turned on CEC. Everything here as turned off initially (factory reset, I assume).

When researching ARC and NAD, I found that it uses Source 3. Within the settings, source 3 was set to HDMI 3 which I used to plug in an external unit and it worked correctly. But to get ARC corrected, I had to leave HDMI 3 blank for time being and set Digital audio to Coaxial 1.

Below is the back settings on The NAD. No input on HDMI 3.Coaxial Digital audio in on input 1 and of course my HDMI from the TV is on HDMI1 out.

Now, when I go to antenna tv to watch local channels on the TV, I just switch the receiver to source 3 and I get sound.

Thanks once again guys.

Glad you got it working. HDMI can be a pain in the a$$, that's for sure.

Would you believe, my NAD died again!

This time, I am not going to fix it.

Will look for replacement by next black friday.

For time being, I got a 7 input and 1 output hdmi switcher, will use the TV speakers for time being.

So far so good, my oppo, ps4, ps5, wii U, Wii Switch, chromcast all work.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe check with Craig or Mike and see if they have any deals going right now.

I have to wait a bit to save money.

With all the past holiday purchases, end of year property taxes, etc. and upcoming Income tax (I will have to pay), as well as some unexpected medical bills that I have to cover, I don't have the disposable income to buy something now.

Hopefully by next black friday, I can get something. :)

When trying to save money, always something or another happens to take you away from that plan!

Damn, sorry to hear that, really sucks. Modern electronics esp. from a name brand like NAD are usually pretty reliable so it's frustrating to get what appears to be a lemon.

I have come to realize, no matter which brand or which price point it is at, high, low, medium, all will fail eventually!

Just enjoy what you have for the time you have it and save for the eventual replacement!

:)

Plus, I can't blame NAD.. I bought this unit in late 2012/early 2013 so it has lasted as long as it could!

10 years is a pretty good run. But that means it is pretty out of date too.
