Wrath of Man (Blu-ray) review

Wrath of Man (Blu-ray) review
« on: July 11, 2021, 07:44:29 PM »

Studio: Warner
Release Date: July 13, 2021
Rating: R
Film: 4/5

Plot
Mysterious and wild-eyed, a new security guard for a cash truck surprises his co-workers when he unleashes precision skills during a heist. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman's ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score.

My Thoughts
I’ve always liked Guy Ritchie flicks because they are generally entertaining, well shot, and he seems to get the most out of his cast. In this film, his muse is Jason Statham, who plays a mysterious (at least at first) man who’s the newbie at an armored truck company, but we soon realize there’s more to the man than meets the eye.

The films narrative isn’t linear and is broken into four different chapters that shows a robbery from the perspective of each group that was involved, which keeps the mystery going throughout most of the film. The third act is filled with action, gunshots, and of course, sweet cold revenge.

The presentation is very good, but a tad disappointing. First, this is the type of film that begs for a 4K release, but none is being offered. Second, the theatrical release included a 7.1 track, which is absent on the Blu-ray. I guess the only response is WTF Warner?

Video 4.5/5

Audio 4/5 (DTS-HD MA 5.1)

Special Features:

  • Digital Copy

Conclusion
I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of Statham’s work, but I liked his role here. This is a somewhat serious movie and I found the story somewhat plausible (by Hollywood standards) and wildly entertaining. If you’re looking for a good action film, this one certainly fits the bill.

This looks good, but I might hold out for a 4K disc.

I'm not sure there will be one anytime soon. Maybe if this does well on Blu-ray it will get a re-release.

I enjoyed this one. I’m not usually a huge director fan. But Ritchie always impresses me

I haven't really liked anything Ritchie has done until The Gentlemen - which I loved. And Jason Statham is always fun ( The Transporter, Crank, Spy ). So I'm game for a blind buy of this!

Wow - not even "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" or "Snatch"? Those are both incredibly entertaining, and both also feature Statham early in his career (though in a smaller supporting role for LSaTSB).

Hopefully you just didn't realize those are Ritchie's because otherwise some of us might have seriously revisit your movie buff cred... ;D

Nope. Neither one really did anything for me. The Sherlock Holmes movies were " okay ". Not good enough to re-buy on 4k though. The Gentlemen rocked it though. Although my wife didn't like it at all. Oh well.

Greetings,

Nice review Dave. I agree with you on all fronts. I rated it just a tad lower due to the final act which I thought lacked the spark of the first two.

Maybe it's because my expectations were so low going in :)
