My Thoughts
While I went to Catholic school for half of my grammar school years, I don’t consider myself an overtly religious person. In fact, other than going to a wedding or a funeral, I haven’t been a church goer for over 15 years (mainly due to the Catholic church scandal highlighted in the movie Spotlight). That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in God, which I do, but I also don’t go out of my way to watch overtly religious material.
 
That being said, this story looked very interesting when the press release landed in my inbox and I thought after recently watching The Ten Commandments in 4K and enjoying it a lot, I’d take another crack at a biblical story and see if lighting could strike twice. It turns out it did, and I found this show produced for Discovery+ turned out to be extremely well done. Anyone who spent any time in church already knows the story, but it’s the execution of all of the thematic elements that make this work so well. The acting is top-notch, the sets have extremely high production value, and the costumes are excellent.
 
Additionally, the presentation is outstanding with crisp digitally-shot photography, more than adequate CGI work, and a DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack that is fully enveloping and packs some punch on the low end of the audio spectrum.

Conclusion
I know this film will receive a very narrow following, but if you’re looking for a good drama, with fabulous costumes and excellent acting, add it to your viewing list. It’s not trying to convert you to any one religion and tells one of the greatest stores in human history. Highly recommended.
