She's the Man (Blu-ray) review

She's the Man (Blu-ray) review

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: March 2, 2021
Rating: PG-13
Film: 3.5/5

Plot
Amanda Bynes proves that girls can do anything guys can do in this hysterical comedy of errors. When Viola (Bynes), disguised as her twin brother, Sebastian (James Kirk), joins the high school boys’ soccer team, she ends up helping them win the big game. She also unexpectedly falls for Duke (Channing Tatum), the hot star forward.

My Thoughts
Somehow I missed this completely when it was released in 2006 but it was something my wife wanted to see when she read the press release. It’s an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Twelfth Night and for the most part works quite well. The first two acts do a great job of setting up the scenario and letting it play out with plenty of LOL moments. Unfortunately, the third act goes off the rails a little bit as the story does its best to come to a nice and tidy conclusion.

Conclusion
Overall, this was a fun harmless film with a lot of laughs. Watching it 15 years after its debut gives an interesting perspective on the stars. Tatum has gone on to a very successful career while Bynes “retired” from acting in 2010 but never left the public light with several run ins with law enforcement for hit and runs, alcohol, and drug use. Pretty sad since she had the potential to be quite a star. Recommended for fans.
