Thought I would write something up on my new Screen Excellence scope trim masking screen with NEO fabric. The screen was delivered in two boxes. The "C" sections were in one box and everything else in the second box. My 110" wide (viewing) frame was made with four frame members. Two "C" sections and two straight frame members. You had two splice bars for each of the connections for the frame. The splice bars fit neatly into channels in the frame and locked down with allen screws.
The frame sections were clearly labeled with colored stickers so it was very easy to know which frame piece went where. After putting the frame pieces together, you then flip the frame over and attach the velvet covers onto the frame. Again colored stickers were in place to show you clearly which piece went where. The velvet covers are held in place with small machine screws going into the edge of the frame.
After frame is assembled and covers attached, you flip the frame face down and install the two vertical braces. These braces are to keep the frame from being pulled in, in the middle, when tensioning the fabric. Once braces are in place, you roll out the fabric, sliding it under the vertical supports. Starting in the middle of a long side, start tucking the fabric in. You go back and forth from one side to the other, using one hand to add a little tension and the other hand tuck the fabric into the grip rail.
Once the fabric is tucked in everywhere, except where the braces are, you remove one brace, tuck in the screen and replace the brace. Do the same for the second brace. Look the fabric over and make sure that you do not have any wrinkles anywhere. if you do, just pull the fabric out of the rail and re-tuck. If you have too much excess fabric on any side, you can now trim it off. Now roll the black backing onto the frame and perform the same procedure with it. Once done the screen is ready to mount.
Mounting is very simple. Install the two wall cleats, evenly spaced. Each cleat will need to be placed so that it does not hit on a vertical brace on the back of the screen. Make sure the two cleats are level with each other. Once the cleats are up, then, with help, pick up the screen and hang on the cleats. Not in the instructions, but an extra step that I took was to make sure the screen was plumb vertically. In my case the bottom of the screen needed to be shimmed out about an 1/8". I had some adhesive back velvet tabs that worked perfectly for this. I attached one, on each bottom corner.
Next you will need to connect the controls and it does not get much simpler than this. My screen has the option for RQ motor control and independent stops. The controls consist of one control box, power supply with cord and one IR receiver. The control box is labeled for the right mask, left mask, IR and power. Make those connections and secure the cables out of place. I have grills under my screen so I tried placing the IR receiver behind the grill, so that it would be hidden. Worked perfectly. I then used the included remote to teach the screen stops to my Harmony remote.
Other than help for flipping the frame over and for hanging the screen on the cleats, I did everything else by myself, in about an hour and a half. This screen is well made. Everything fit precisely and was very easy to put together. The screen works perfectly with the motors quietly moving the masking panels into place. My screen is 2.37 aspect ratio and I have stops at 2.37, 2.0, 1.85 and 1.78. These stops are working very well for me, but if I need to hit a different ratio, I can press a button to move the masking in and stop the masking at any point. I am really pleased with this purchase and love having a masking screen.
The two pictures of the completed screen were taken with three 65 watt watt flood lights on full, to light up the screen. The masking in actual use looks completely black.
