So is this possibly a f/w update or does that look like it has to be new projectors? There have been hints dropped about new h/w.

No clue. I was told that the teaser would generate more questions than answers. And so it has !

My guess is firmware update. Which would be great for everyone.

Added
Confirmed this is firmware update for everyone with 1000/2000/3000. :)

Supposed to be even more significant than the addition of Frame Adapt. The key word in the video is Customizable. I am hearing this will do things that no other piece of equipment can do.

You'll need to wait. At least this is an upgrade new and existing owners can both enjoy !

I know; was just teasing myself.

I give JVC great props for doing this - a great way to maintain the loyalty of current customers, and attract new ones at the same time.

This makes a lot of sense. We're at a point where it seems like there is a lot less improvement possible in hardware iterations from year to year, so having a platform that's extensible and upgradeable with firmware is a smart approach. My Anthem pre-pro, my DAC, my car, all have had several software updates to add or refine functionality.

Now that is what I call a great marketing tease! If they somehow figured out how to get more processing power out of these projectors to bridge the gap in DTM quality, to the other two VPs, this could be really exciting and save us a great amount of money.

I was just emailing back and forth with Chris Deutsch from JVC and he clarified what the video means:

"To clarify, this is an improvement to Frame Adapt HDR which will be available as a no-charge firmware update to our customers later this year.  It is for the DLA-RS1000, DLA-RS2000 & DLA-RS3000.

Customers can purchase the best 4K HDR home theater projectors in the industry right now, and know that later this year, we will make them even better."

It's things like this that makes me extremely happy on my decision to move forward with a JVC projector VS the other ones I was looking at.

My best guess is we will finally be able to input what our actual light output is off the screen and the software will cater the curve to that. Hopefully it will be attached to the screen mode for those of us that have scope screens. I have multiple aspect ratios set up (2.40, 1.85, 1.79, 2.20, and 2.0), which would all have slightly different light output.

I agree. And I expect better tonemapping performance overall. If they can get it to Lumagen/madVR level of performance, that would be incredible.
