Jojo Rabbit
Studio:  20th Century Fox
Release Date: Feb 18, 2020
Rating: PG-13
Aspect Ratio: 1.85.1
HDR10
Film: 4/5

My Thoughts: I’ve loved  Taika Waititi’s work since “ What We Do In The Shadows “.  Rather than re-hash the plot ( which you can read about elsewhere ), I’ll just say this – this movie is the most subversive anti war movie I’ve ever seen. Love is more powerful than hate is the real story here! The last ¼ of the film really bring the films message home ( with a few gut punches ). Great performances from Roman Griffin Davis and Thomasin McKenzie ( and all around really ). I look forward to re-watching this with other friends ( all 4 guests liked it on my first viewing ). My guests and I also appreciated that fact that this film is something completely different ( and a bit risky story wise ) – which is rare in Hollywood these days.

Video 4.5/5 – the 4K disk has great detail, color, clarity and looks quite good. I did not watch the Blu-ray for comparison ( yet ).

Audio 4/5 – mostly dialog driven, with some good surround use near the end of the film.

Conclusion – Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit is an unusual gem of a movie, and while funny at times, has a great message and packs an emotional wallop at the end. Highly recommended !

I also saw this movie and I agree, it is worth watching..

The interesting thing is that other kid Yorki was the one that really came to the realization of what was happening in reality a lot faster than the main character Jojo.

Jojo still had his head in the clouds so to speak..

Anyways, greatly enjoyed the story and the acting. Well done.

Great review Craig. Totally loved it as well and the kids were great. The friend reminded me of a kid version of Nick Frost from Hot Fuzz (and other films). All around great movie that has a ton of replay value.

Yorki has some great lines too! The kid was only 10 when they filmed this.

I would actually watch a movie with that Yorki kid as the main star. :)

Watched this last weekend with my wife and we both really enjoyed it.

In the opening scenes I felt a little uneasy about a movie that was downright whimsical about Nazi Germany. However, they really made it work and the device of telling the story through the point of view of a naive 10 year old boy was a key. That was a challenging type of movie to pull off well and I thought that Watiti did it brilliantly. While the overall impact of what was happening is very muted due to that limited POV, the emotional punches that come with the nascent glimmers of understanding that Jojo experiences still carry a significant weight. The "shoes scene" was even more heartbreaking, which is also a credit to ScarJo's performance.

I totally agree. Looking forward to a rewatch.

Agreed.  I had a second watching a week or two ago.  Given the casual description of what it's about (child Nazi's!), I wouldn't have expected anything good, but it was a very pleasant surprise.
