Plot
Consummate con man Roy Courtnay (Ian McKellen) has set his sights on his latest mark: the recently widowed Betty McLeish (Helen Mirren), worth millions. And Roy means to take it all.

From their very first meeting, Roy begins plying Betty with his tried and true manipulations, and Betty, who seems quite taken with him, is soon going along for the ride. But this time, what should have been a simple swindle escalates into a cat-and-mouse game with the ultimate stakes—revealing more insidious deceptions that will take them both through a minefield of danger, intrigue and betrayal.
 
My Thoughts
The trailers for this one really captured my attention for personal reasons. My Mom’s long-term boyfriend died about 18 months ago and a few months later she met a man who lives many states away. Having only met him on a couple of occasions, we weren’t sure what to think. When the trailer for this movie came out, it definitely got my mind working, that’s for sure.

The film itself is quite good for the first two acts, but the conclusion left a lot to be desired and became a bit too ambitious of where the story started and where it ultimately ended up. The acting is excellent—as one would expect from McKellen and Mirren—and the pacing is top-notch at 100 minutes.

Conclusion
This was a bit late showing up from Warner, but I’m glad it finally arrived. While it didn’t meet my high expectations when I sat down to watch it, it is a good drama/thriller that will keep you entertained for 100 minutes. If you’re a fan of the stars, definitely check it out. Recommended.
