Though, I am curious about why an RS1000 is being used? Taking price into consideration, shouldn't an RS2000 be used?

Probably because everyone expects the RS2000 and the VW695 to be close, but I think people will be surprised at just how good the RS1000 is.

JVC starting setup for Bigger is Better Event.

The JVC laser projector set up on a S.I. Solo 2 retractable screen with Slate 1.2 material in blazing light. Looked good even in the bright hall. Also, the RS1000 lens next to the RS3000 lens !

The Solo 2 is the size of an iPhone ! The Slate 1.2 worked well considering there was full brightness. Still watchable with JVC's LX-NZ3 3000 lumen laser projector.

The main part of the event was putting the RS1000's HDR DTM through it's paces, and comparing various scenes in various movies to the Sony VW695es. Those two projectors were side by side, with an RS3000 on top with a DCR lens. 

Russell Warnhoff was on hand for the screen and shade portion of the program. 

That RS3000 lens is huge compared to the RS1000 lens !

Sure. And maybe Mike will chime in. The bottom line - the Sony VW695 can look as good ( except in really dark scenes where the lack of native contrast is quite apparent ) with most HDR, but it most likely needs to be adjusted for every movie you watch. The RS1000 in DTM mode needed no adjustments.
