Plot
Beverly Hills Cop: Looking to track down his best friend's killer, fast-talking Detroit Police detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) travels to Beverly Hills to follow-up on some clues. Once there, he's put under the watchful eyes of two local cops (Judge Reinhold and John Ashton) and draws the ire of the local officials with his unorthodox detective skills. 

Beverly Hills Cop II: Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills to help Taggart and Rosewood investigate Chief Bogomil's near-fatal shooting and the series of "alphabet crimes" associated with it.

Beverly Hills Cop III: Axel Foley, while investigating a car theft ring, comes across something much bigger than that: the same men who killed his boss are running a counterfeit money ring out of a theme park in Los Angeles.
 
My Thoughts
Saturday Night Live showcased Murphy’s comedic talent and 48 Hours made him a star, but it was his role in Beverly Hills Cop that turned the talented comedian into a box office sensation and a household name. He followed up his success by starring in The Golden Child, which led to a big paycheck, but a diminished reputation. At that time, it was time to go back to the well with a sequel with Beverly Hills Cop II, a strong follow-up to the first film directed by Tony Scott. Unfortunately, he couldn’t leave well enough alone and revisited the character 7 years later to cap off the trilogy, but the magic was certainly gone, and the third film was a wild disappointment. Rumors are a fourth film is in the making, which will probably garner a big check for Murphy, but will people flock to see it?

Conclusion
Murphy has always been one of my favorite comedians over the years and in the 80’s, he was king of the hill. This role was suited to his comedic style perfectly and set his career off on the right path. He has had many starring roles over the years, but probably my favorite role he’s played has been Donkey from Shrek. I can’t imagine how those movies would have been received without him behind the character. Regardless, if you’re a fan of this role the presentation is pretty good, except for the first film, which hasn’t ever looked particularly good on any format due to the way it was shot.
