CES 2017
« on: December 22, 2016, 01:27:13 PM »
CES opens in 2 weeks from today. Hopefully there will be more news regarding the new JVC RS4500, the re-freshed JVC RS400 / 500 /600. That's exciting enough, but I'll be curious what else might get unveiled at the show. New DLP 4K ( or faux 4K ) projectors from BenQ or Optima ?

You projector guys have your druthers and I do hope you get answers.  4K projectors will require some major price drops before they can be considered here.

But meantime, I'm VERY interested in what CES is going to show in the 2017 UHD TVs.  This gets into the question of whether to go for an end-of-year low price or hold out because there is something worthwhile being released -- worthwhile regardless of price (within reason  :-X).

True - but I've heard late 2017 for some 4K calibration software. I have Jeff of Accucal coming in March or April to calibrate whatever projector(s) I have at the time for 4K UHD.

I'll be going to CES for a one day trip, mostly to see the new JVC projectors.

Hey, yeah!  Good idea!

And even if you aren't interested, stop by LG and Sony and look at their new TV offerings -- both OLED and LCD.  See if you can't talk them out of some advance pricing info...   ::)

Seriously, I'd live to cast a vicarious eye on those new products.  And nit info would be helpful too!

But most of all, enjoy your trip and the tour!!!   8)

I'm already back. It was just a one day trip ( Thursday ). Some of the new OLED flat panels did look pretty good, but I'm a projector guy* . Really only there to see JVC, SVS and a few others.

* I have a JVC RS600 projector, a Sony VW600 projector and a 32" JVC flat panel from CostCo. That should say it all right there.

I remember going years ago to the CES...we would spend 2 days to get through it all, and in the end I recall having a backache after the trip was over. I am not sure I could be walking even only one day anymore without back pain.

Last year I picked up a cold or something there that made me sick for 4 weeks! I had to buy stock in kleenex it was so bad. I find CES to be far more disorganized, far more crowded, and have less home theater equipment ( compared to other stuff like drones ) than Cedia. Cedia is by far the better home theater show. 1/2 the people, twice the stuff to see that I'm interested in ! And it's pretty much all in one place at Cedia. CES is spread out over Las Vegas. You waste an hour going from the Venetian to the convention center.

We used to go ever year to COMDEX, and CES, but I haven't been since around 2000 to one. I have never been to Cedia, and might go this next time. I used to love going to the Sterophile Shows when they were in SF.

Yeah, I've noticed your pj bias.   ;D  I should have noticed the date.

(An aside -- I am absolutely caught up in this "I'd Rather Be Blind" by Beth Hart/Joe Bonamassa on Live in Amsterdam.  Stunning!)
