Apocalypse Now 4K
Studio:  Lionsgate
Release Date:  Aug 27, 2019
Rating: R
Film:  5 / 5

Plot: If there is anyone that isn’t familiar with this film, it’s basically a loosely based version of the 1899 novella Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad set in Viet Nam during the war. A classic. For more back story on this film, see - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalypse_Now

My Thoughts : I loved the Final Cut. I never watched the “ Redux “ version – only the theatrical cut. This version was extremely interesting, and the restored footage filled in several plot points. It’s now my preferred version, although I probably should watch “ Redux “ once. Note that this release has all thre versions of the film on 4K, from the same 4K remaster.

Video 4.5 / 5  Wow, this film has never looked this good. There are some scenes with quite a bit of grain during opticals / cross fades. Usually this looks appropriately gritty. Other shots look stunning for a 40 year old film. Color and HDR looks wonderful – not overdone. Blacks look good too.

Audio 4.5 / 5 The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is quite good. While not quite up to modern audio track standards, there was plenty of LFE and surround channel activity, to make for a fairly immersive experience. For a movie from the 1970’s, this exceeded my expectations.

Conclusion – if you are a fan of this film, and have a 4K system, this is a must own 4K Blu – ray release !

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in the ring since I just had a chance to watch it. I forgot you reviewed it, but your review was not under " Movie Reviews " when I looked today!
