Midsommar

Studio: Lionsgate Films
Release Date: Oct 08, 2019
Rating:R
Film:4/5

Plot - A young woman, recovering from a family tragedy,  joins her boyfriend and several friends on a trip to Sweden for a rare summer celebration.

My Thoughts – this is a slow burn, horror / thriller. I’m not familiar with this director, but the story and atmosphere were very disturbing ( and entertaining ). Not for the squeamish. Some blood / gore and nudity / drug use. I have not seen a movie quite like this. I’m watching it again next week with friends, so I’ll add some thought after a 2nd viewing ( and more audience reaction ).

Video: 5/5  This Blu-ray is one of the best ones I’ve seen. Sharp, crisp, beautifully shot. Shot in up to 8K with digital cameras, and apparently finished in 4K. Too bad there is no 4K Blu-ray. 2.00:1 aspect ratio. The picture has a stylized look at times – no doubt intentional.

Audio: 4/5  The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix sounds quite good. There are quite a few times the surround channels got used very effectively.

Conclusion: If you like slow burn off beat modern horror films, you might like this. I did. It’s a bit long ( probably could have used about 20 minutes of trimming ), but it’s a fun creepy ride with a great ( disturbing ) ending !

It's one of those " hard to see how this could look much better " Blu-rays. So, I'll be interested to see the 4K reviews. :o

I'd have to say this film won't be your cup of tea. Slow burn - like " Hostiles " or " Phantom Thread ". And horror - it's shocking at times. :-X

It is estimated they pressed 10,000 copies this time instead of the original 3000.

I got the email notification at 12:10 PM Central today.

4K UHD disc was delivered today.  Immediately backed it up to disk folders so I can view it with MadVR.    Disc will remain in pristine condition in its packaging for what it cost.

Viewed it tonight.  It looked fantastic.  Love Florence Pugh.

I wouldn't compare a film that features pagan rituals to a horror film.  I hate horror films.  I loved this film.

The box is not going to fit a typical display case.  It gets its own.

I bet that movie looks great on 4K disc.  As much as I liked it, I just can't see spending $50 on it though.  ???

I liked Midsommer, but it creeped me out a bit....and I don't creep out easily. I think the whole cult thing was the deal.

I'm resisting a political cult comment.
