Plot
When a devastating attack leaves Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) shattered and without his memory, no one expected recovery. But by putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous fantasy world, where he draws strength to triumph in the real one. His astonishing art installation peopled with breathtakingly life-like dolls becomes a testament to the powerful women who support him on his journey.

My Thoughts
This is a quirky movie that I didn’t expect I’d like after watching the trailers, but I found it to be a decent way to spend a couple of hours. Carell is outstanding as the quirky protagonist whose life was forever altered by the attack and through the narrative, we get to see how this came about. He has a bizarre fetish that keeps coming up in the film, but it’s not overtly in your face and is handled with class. The supporting characters all do their part and the CG is excellent in how they capture the facial expressions of the dolls.
The A/V quality is superb with bright primary colors, solid black levels, and a razor-sharp image. The audio track will surprise you at times with its dynamics as we delve into the wild imagination of Hogancamp. His artwork portrays a fictional village from WWII and there’s plenty of gunfire.

Conclusion
Like most movies these days, I thought the editing could have been tightened up a bit to shorted the run-time by 10-15 minutes, but this isn’t a bad movie. The main character is quirky, but likable, and the supporting cast does a great job at moving the story along. Definitely give this one a look, especially if you’re a fan of Carell’s.
