UltraViolet is Shutting Down
« on: March 31, 2019, 09:40:02 AM »

I just received an email (a second reminder, actually) that the UltraViolet service is shutting down.

The site allows users to keep a virtual library of their digital movie and television show titles, easily accessible in one place. The reminder says that the service will end on July 31, 2019.

Here's what you need to know in order to keep access to your video library.
-----------------
What should you do now?
  • Login here and choose Retailer Services to verify the retailers linked to your UltraViolet Library. If your Library is not currently linked to a retailer or if you would like to link to additional participating retailers, select one or more retailers to link to your UltraViolet Library.
  • Don’t unlink or close your UltraViolet Library, as UltraViolet and retailers will be working together to maximize your continued access to movies and TV shows.

Between January 31 and July 31, 2019:
  • You can continue to access your UltraViolet movies and TV shows through the retailer(s) linked to your UltraViolet Library.
  • You can also continue to purchase new movies and TV shows and redeem digital codes by following the redemption instructions. Depending on the retailer, these new purchases and redemptions may or may not be added to your UltraViolet Library.
  • Linking your UltraViolet Library to additional retailers can maximize your access to your Library and help avoid potential disruption.

After the shutdown date:
  • Your UltraViolet Library will automatically close and, in the majority of cases, your movies and TV shows will remain accessible at previously-linked retailers.
  • You can continue to make online purchases and redeem codes, but these may only be available through that retailer, and will not be added to your UltraViolet Library.

Do you have a sizable digital library on UltraViolet?

I do, but it's all on Vudu and Movies Anywhere (thankfully). I linked all my accounts from the beginning.

I never really used UV, at least directly, but I got a notification from Paramount last night about their impending shutdown. It directed me to ensure that I had linked my UV account to retain my movies via Vudu. I only have 4 titles in digital form with Paramount, from older Blu-ray purchases. (Arrival, Interstellar, Saving Private Ryan and Star Trek: Into Darkness.) When I initially redeemed these I don't recall Paramount offering UV or any other "account linking" option. So I checked last night and saw a UV link and did it.

This morning I see none of those in either UV or Vudu. Anyone have any suggestions for the next 4 days before UV shutters?

No. Prior to sending the codes to Jason in the office I literally just threw them away. I only watch movies on physical media.
