You talk like contrast is nothing. You know that ISF does not share that opinion. Every year, after CEDIA someone always asks what was the best looking projector at CEDIA. For the last several years the answer has been an LCOS projector. CEDIA has DLP's there that are brighter, higher contrast and if cost is any indicator, better lenses and yet every year, they do not get the nod for best image at the show. Where DLP does get the nod is in light output. The LK990 throws a sharp image, but LCOS is pretty good in that area also. So you are trying to use light output as the big differentiator and I am using contrast. I believe ISF is on my side.

And Markmon already has said repeatedly the contrast difference between the 4500 and the LK970 with your settings was laughable in dark scenes like space shots. If you don't believe me, I can dig up quotes. Everybody that has viewed an LK side by side with an RS2000 has come to the same conclusion. You argue against that conclusion and yet you have not compared the two side by side, much less side by side in a good blacked out room.
You can dig up all the quotes you want, but you are posting about the older LK970, which has neither HDR nor SmartEco Dynamic Laser Dimming support, not the LK990 which has both upgraded features and also which with I am discussing what it does and how it looks with Dolby Vision LLDV native and upconverted signals being displayed. So what you are posting is totally moot. How exactly do you know what room I have BTW? While it isn't a total bat cave, I do have black curtains I pull around the sides and front and it gets virtually pitch black when watching if I want, especially at night.

Javs, I was talking with Kris Deering last week and I told him that not being able to post on the other forum has become a blessing in disguise. Like you, I'm over the back and forth endless arguing over things we thought were settled upon over a decade ago. I'm only arguing with Dave because I don't want people to assume that the performance the LK990 offers is competitive with most other projectors near its price. It's just not in an overall sense. You're getting all that brightness at the cost of a lot of other things that most people find important. I couldn't care less if a display is a little better at displaying some high nit specular highlights, especially if it's at the expense of a terrible black floor and subjective contrast performance. And this is only made worse when you factor in the amazing things current DTM software can do to an HDR image. 1000:1 native and up to 4500:1 dynamic contrast was terrible performance over a decade ago, so why should we be happy with a nearly 6 figure projector offering contrast that was bad by standards set over a decade ago, and even worse by today's?

That's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black, Dave. You've made proclamations on performance without having seen other hardware as well. By the way, yes, you could go into the RS600 thread and state that stock HDR performance looks like "crap" compared to what a Lumagen or HTPC with madVR can do for that projector. That is pretty much an objective truth on the matter. That's how much of a difference DTM makes, especially with how the software has matured. It's leaps and bounds better than it has ever looked. Maybe you should wait on making claims about your LLDV hack's performance before you see how these other solutions work. As you've said in a previous post, you're just going to have to come to the mainland US and prove us wrong. If that day comes, I'll gladly show up to see what your LK990 can do. If we're blown away with what we see, I will be the first to publicly state that I was wrong.
