Wish Javs had an RS2000 to compare it with side by side. Sharpness battle, is always going to be won by single chip DLP. At least in 6 days, we will be able to talk about something new in the DLP world.
Another perspective...Rich from "Oz Theatre" Screens here in Aus...Just for reference he has had "3" N7 /RS2000 s .. of the 3 two were faulty!I took delivery of my new 990 today. This thing is off the wall!Clarity like you've never seen! Like a giant OLED screen. Pixels far left, far right, top, bottom.. I counted them all too..I've barely touched any settings at this early stage. Cinema mode. pulled the colour down, used a 2.6 gamma, that's it. Every other setting is out of the box.Camera - galaxy S6 phone, about 4 or 5 years old from memory. no tripod, no calibration. The sky in the first image is not that saturated on screen, it's my crappy phone camera. So these images are not for evaluation like Woofer and Javs do, just more of a 'look at this' projector.130" 16:9 screen (165" scope screen)Anyone saying they dislike the image this thing throws is either blind or has some other problem. Seriously. The lens shift is rock solid and the unit is very easy to focus and zoom to the right size. Changing for scope takes about 30 seconds, but that will get quicker. dials are above head height so a bit of stretch. Can't wait to see where this can be taken with calibration. incredible projector.
To be fair, he took those photos with an older cell phone camera. A lot of them cook the image. With bright content, the LK990 looks very good. But as you say any projector will look good with content like that. I'm waiting for Javs to get his. He will provide excellent photos comparing it calibrated to other projectors. Good relative difference photos. I hope he can provide mixes APL comparison photos as well.
Those photos look totally overcooked to me. Like an HDTV on display at Best Buy. What does " Arrival " look like ? Content like that being shown is a cheat. Like using animation / cartoons for demo material - which should be illegal at Cedia. Bright video shot content looks good on anything - even a cheap $2K single chip DLP. Hell - even a $800.00 projector looks good with that content. Just like animation does. What do the darkest scenes on John Wick 1 and 2 look like ? That's where the rubber meets the road for me. Not travel videos. The opening scenes on John Wick 2 looked terrible on the single chip DLP Barco at Cedia, even though it was laser ( and $80K !! ). Show me screen shots from the first 5 minutes of John Wick 2, then we can talk.
Craig,Please give the man some credit! He is not an amateur . He has been doing projection for many years .From his correspondence he has looked at content other than "Bright" scenes and is surprised how well it fairs. Just recently he had a SONY 760ES , he disliked it so much he passed it on very quickly...

I certainly plan to.
First: I mean no disrespect to any of the forum members who seem to have high praise for this projector! So, please don't scold me. I thought someone posted their projector settings? Was it Mike Garrett? Can someone post a link to that please? I just got this projector. I must say I am not impressed. I am no expert in video and I don't know enough technical details to explain but as a user, this projector is worth about the $5000 I paid for it.. probably less. The picture is bright enough. I did reduce the brightness to about 30 to get some decent contrast. They say it is sharp but I am using this projector as a computer monitor also (to type this message). I don't see it more sharp than my current Epson 4000. Other than brightness, I don't see this projector as being that much superior to the Epson 4000. I got this as refurbished unit direct from BenQ and I intend to return it. Lets not get into "its not calibrated" debate. . I have bought enough projectors over the past 25 years to know a good projector (or a bad one) when I see one! Yes, i have had many of my projectors calibrated and am familiar with the results, pre and post calibration. Frankly, I never saw "amazing improvement". Maybe because I am not such a sophisticated videophile.. but i do know what a good projector would look like and great projector - this is NOT! My prior projector was the $80,000 Wolf Cinema dcx 1000i (calibrated by one of the members here); subsequently, I found it to be inferior to the $1500 Epson 4000 and I gave the wolf away for free to a forum member! I am going to be comparing this with a JVC NX7 this weekend. Other forum members are coming over to fine tune this projector and do a comparison. I have already decided to return this projector. I will not be buying any of these single chip dlp based projectors.. their native contrast is obviously not good enough for my own preferences/tastes. I will probably get scolded by those who seem to be huge fans of these projectors. I have nothing against their preferences.. I am just saying that the contrast (and the "clarity/quality of lens"?) and the over all picture from this projector is unsuitable for MY personal tastes.. I bought this projector because another forum member suggested it. I asked him if he had seen it and he said he did not and he was going by the reviews here on the forum. Those of you swayed by seemingly high praise of this projector - please be careful. Make sure you buy direct from benq so that you can return it, if you don't like it. I mean no disrespect to any of the forum members who seem to have high praise for this projector! I am just writing this so that someone else won't waste their time on this, as did I.
Javs,I'm posting movie reviews on this site now...they are in the "Movie Review" area Great to see you here.
