well...I had been using rigid foam panels with the middle cut out...covered in joanns royal velvet for masking...and I didnt THINK the velvet was AT since it didnt pass the breath test...and now its confirmed see below (right speaker only...10db loss):

so now back to the drawing board to find adequate material for masking...must be as dark and light absorbing as velvet

Thanks that confirms what i thought...good for bass traps but not mids and highs.

no problem...I wanted to find a new masking system anyhow,..this will just push me to do so
