SV Sound SB2000 Subwoofers
« on: May 30, 2018, 03:50:22 PM »
I just installed a pair of SV Sound SB2000 Subwoofers in my theater. These are some nice compact subs, that put out some bass ! I have them running as a pair in front, hidden behind my curtains. They are connected with a Y splitter, and running off the new SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter, which made for easy installation ! I'm also running my pair of PC12 Plus cylinders in the rear of the room. " Hacksaw Ridge " sounded insanely good the other night ! 4 subs is the only way to go if at all possible ! The battle scenes made it feel like the floor was rolling under your feet ! No one is the wiser that I added two more subs - until something explodes on screen ! Bass is a lot tighter now !

The SB-3000's are the best boom for the buck on the market IMO.

Keep going and that is how you end up with seven 18's in your room. Then you start thinking about 21's. :)

They won't fit behind my front drapes. The SB3000's are too deep.

Awesome upgrade. I have SVS SB-3000 and I just love it. The SB-3000 combines innovations from the flagship 16-Ultra range with a new 13 inch high-excursion driver. SVS is clearly pleased with the latest addition to its lineup, promising a performance akin to 'an iron fist in a velvet glove': a bold if slightly uncomfortable sounding claim.

I reviewed this last year and loved it. Arguably, the best boom for the buck in the SVS line:  https://www.soundandvision.com/content/svs-sb-3000-subwoofer-review

Things are shaping up nicely on the bass front ! A pair of SB2000's on either side of the screen in front, and a pair of new SB4000's  on either side in back. So far, using the Mini DSP HD - WOW ! Awesome bass for sure.

I knew you'd love what the Mini DSP HD could do for the bass in your room. I have six subwoofers right now:

SVS PC-Ultra Cylinder Subwoofer
 HSU VTF-15H MK2 Subwoofer
JL Audio Fathom F110 Subwoofers x 2 (stacked)

JL Audio Dominion D110 Subwoofer x 2 (stacked)

Without the Mini-DSP, the bass would be a muddy mess with the subs fighting each other at different frequencies. Now they all play as "one" and it's amazing how great they sound.

Level matching all of those subs must be difficult. I found level matching cylinders with the front firing SB2000's to be tough. Also, with the PC12 Plus subs plugged to get them to play better with the SB2000's the SB2000's seemed to put out more bass. I just sold the cylinders today. The SB4000's are a better match. So far, bass is tight. A test with Baby Driver sounded crazy good. Plus, the SB4000's fire at the back of the sectional - no need for butt kickers !

I can see playing with the MiniDSP HD over and over to try and get better results. It's a time eating rabbit hole for sure !

Yes...it was a challenge. With the cylinder sub, I kept having to play with the delay to get it to play nice with the other subwoofers, but thankfully, it's the furthest away so it's the last subwoofer added to the mix. In all reality, I don't "need" it in the equation, but it digs the deepest of all of my subs and added the "rumble" to the sub-floor :) (I have a raised foundation). The kinetic energy is awesome (although my wife constantly tells me to turn it down!).

I'm really pleased with my move to all sealed subs, and the MiniDSP HD. The tunnel gun fight in John Wick 2 sounds incredible now. And, it sounds ( and feels ) incredible from every seat across the 14' sectional sofa ! That was the goal starting with the bass traps. Takes quite a bit of time to get dialed in though.
