What is a JVC B-stock
« on: October 22, 2016, 09:00:15 AM »
Often times I am asked what is a JVC B-stock projector. So I thought I would put it in a post. A B-stock JVC is a projector that was returned to JVC. We do not know why it was returned. It could be a customer return due to a problem. A customer return because customer thought he had a problem, which turned out to be caused from another piece of equipment and the projector got the blame. You would be surprised at how many times that happens. It could also be a projector that was used as a demo.

JVC puts these projectors back to factory spec and we buy them. When we get a JVC B-stock, we power all of them up, then once warmed up, we connect a test pattern generator and check focus and convergence. We also check the other controls. We also check the firmware and if it does not have the latest firmware, we load it into the projector. If it passes our inspection, we sell it, if not, it goes back to JVC to repair or dump. A B-stock projector will have 200 or less hours on the lamp, though most of the time we see between 3 and 60 hours. A B-stock carries the same manufacturer's warranty as a new JVC. Those interested in a B-stock should contact us and inquire. When we hear about B-stock availability, we will post in the forum.

NOTE
JVC has changed B-stock policy on warranty. It is now 1 year on B-stocks.

Thanks, Mike.

When they come with 0 hours, does that imply they have a fresh bulb, or just that the counter has been reset?

I bought my only JVC projector so far, the RS45 b-stock and it has been phenomenal. The discount over MSRP was pretty great to boot.

Highly considering this...(especially if the current series JVCs didn't have such horrible input lag for gaming).  Keeping my eye open for a possible update to remedy this ;-) .  Also, does Epson do anything like this?

My B-stock RS400, purchased through Mike, appeared indistinguishable from a new factory fresh unit.  From the double boxing to the enclosed detailed list of tests performed to its immaculate appearance it was clearly what I was hoping to see.  I actually think my B-stock was better than new because a new unit could have arrived with a mfg glitch (mechanical, convergence error, etc.)  But with the rigorous AVS exam detailed in the top post, no chance.  Eighty-eight hours in, I couldn't be more pleased.

Well that really sucks, puts a serious dent in the value of a B-stock, especially something like an RS600.   :'(

The B-stocks that we currently are selling have full manufacturer's warranty. In other words, RS400 with 2 year and RS600 with 5 year.

Great!  They really are a killer deal that way.
