Low hour unit, in original condition, from around 1975.

Sweet sounding integrated amp from Denon, maybe the best they ever made, very very nice riaa as well.

When in original condition its a very nice sounding amp.. lots of 3D.. Its not super transparent, and dont have a lot of power, and it runs very very hot.. I bought quite a few defective ones,and had pretty much luck reparing all of them, replacing all the transistors with original NOS ones, and replacing the caps, and some resistors.. Think i have 5 or 6 of them still.

the best part of all my amps..I always scoured to find good deals...knowing I could try them out...then flip them for a profit...which worked on all except one which I lost 50$

I try to scour all the ads too...for all my equipment. There is no way I could have what I have now without buying used, and great deals.

Not familiar with this NAD, but I know NAD makes excellent amps!
The NAD 3020 Series 20 is a must have amp.. Its the safe port when sidetracked.. It will always play music, not the best anything, but everything equally good or bad.. it represents a unike balance. Often Hifi gets off track, so its good to always have a reference point reminding what music is all about..
The rest of the NAD amps are more or less lucky, i have not really had any of them i would be sad to part with Exept the 3020, and maybe the S250 and S300, have 1 nib nos of each of those.. Just as a colectors item, a bit like the Denon PMA S1, amps i find have made a difference in my hifi journey over time.

Never heard of Doxa... I did a search and see they have some nice products. How does it sound? How expensive are they?
Not sure Doxa is still producing amps.. Its a scool teacher from Norway building them on the kitchen table if i remember right.. I like the old DOXA 70, not heard anything else from his hands i would want.

Electro Reserch A75.
Very unike Amp.. Most likely the best amp of its time, and inspiration to some amps ill post later.

DALI Lectron. Build by Daner Audio Systems, originaly Daner Gravity, and sold to DALI, and was a early prototype for the DALI Gravity amps build for the DALI Megaline speakers.
The Electro Research A75 was the reference amp when building the DALI Lectron, oposit the Electro Research, the Lectron has no feedback loop, its DC servo, and pure 75W Kl A.. Its around 75Kg
Its the only one ever build, finished around 1990.

20 was produced as a statement project together with the DALI Megaline speakers, who needs 2 stereo amps for a set.

I had a feeling it would be a Class A amp when you said people would sweat... My only experience with Class A amps was with my Yamaha Integrated amp which had a 25wpc class A section in it. I do not know if it was a marketing stunt or if it was real Class A, but it sure sounded good. I bet that 150 wpc Class A sounds awesome!

The Pioneer M22 is a 2x20w KL.A.. Not sure if that is compleetly true, but it runs hot.. like 150F or more..So a integrated amp running 25W KL.A.. Most likely not, i think most Kl.A amps are with some sort of adaptive bias..

So thats about the amount of heat it puts out, its active cooled with 2x 120mm papst fans blowing air in, guidet true the amp and out under the heatsinks, blowing the air up true the heatsinks.. And it will overheat and shut down after 5-6 hours of operation on a hot summer day here in Denmark.. wich maxes at around 85F if we have a hot summer.
Kl.A amps can sound as bad as any other amp, but a good Kl.A amp do hold some qualities that i never heard in anything else.

I have been thinking of finally going separates and I've had my eye on Emotiva. I currently have a Denon X4000 powering Paradigm Monitor v6s. Would adding for instance a 7 channel Emotiva be much of an improvement for me with my current setup?

IMO...if you are looking for more power, and bang for your bucks...go with a 3 channel amp for your front 3 channels and use your AVR to power the rest of the channels. This will allow you to have the most power for your front channels without sacrificing your surround channels.

what is the sensativity of the speakers/?
do you notice distortion when you listen as loud as you like?
if not you will have no benefit of separates imho....I dont need amps anymore my speakers are 99db efficient...but i need them for atmos

I suggest checking out the Yamaha P2500s amps for stereo use, as the fans never even came on in my old setup, and we even pushed them occasionally. My Crest Audio amp fans are on all the time. :( Yamaha also has a pro amp that is 8 channel I believe, but I would check to see if the fans are on all the time as their 4 channel version (that I have) is on all the time.

my equipment is all outside the room so fans are not a problem...I use 2 inukes for the subs and the fans are inaudible from inside the room

Pro amps will never be a part of My amp collection, mainly as i dont find them to have other qualities than power, and i value sound quality far more than power.

I used to think that too, but I remember when the Crown Pro amps made quite a stir years ago in the Audiophile realm, and they were doing very well among the high end amps. Personally i think that if you are using room tune software it levels the playing field pretty well to the point where most of the amps sound very close after being tuned in a well setup room...just my opinion though.

To me room correction and that sort of source manipulation is just as bad to sound as CMS/ image manipulation is to the image, there is nothing you can do with software that will bring back whats lost, im much more into adapting the room and finding the combination of devices that has a natural response that is as natural transparent and realistic as possible, so just as ill never be pleased with a PWM or class D amp ill never ever want room correction in the mix, that dont mean that there is not a lot of hi end amps and gear that also dont deliver anything that i would want..

amps do one thing....amplify sound (if they are working properly) If you think an amp sounds different than another amp...you either have psychological bias..or they werent setup the same...or they were designed to sound different....pro amps do not sound any worse than "audiophile amps"

My setup is in a completely tuned room with bass traps, and first reflection points all treated. My setup sounds pretty good without room tune software, but after tuning with Dirac (IMO) it sounds much better.
We all have our own decisions on what is acceptable in getting to our desired finish line...yours is more of a purist (been there), where mine is to get the end result to sound the best I can without breaking my budget. :)

I never heard 2 different amp models or brands that soundet the same, so in my opinion if you dont hear the difference, its related to the person listening, or the rest of the system lacking resolution, dont help anything to have the best amp if the source, preamp or speakers is not up to the task of showing off the difference, or if the room acustic mask it.
And then we each have our own truth to this subject, as we have different references, claiming there is no difference dont take much, and im sure your right in your statement with the point of reference you have.
However you cant use that to tell others that there is no difference, as you will have to consider that you still miss to experience it, or have met the conditions where it was possible to make out the differences.

It dont have to cost a lot to get good sound, its often a matter of finding the right component, wich is mostly a lucky strike from the manufactures.
Some of the most expensive hifi gear is often what sounds the most different/ horrible colored in my world, a good example is Gryphon whos locatet 10 miles from me. I never experienced a Gryphon product i would want to own for the sound quality.. The look is another matter. I also find it hard to find anything produced after year 2000 that i agree with, its in general gone more and more specs, power consumption into it than sound quality.. Totaly same direction as image gear, more and more gimick and manipulation to reach the end result, wich is very dependant of processors and software.

For me its a clasic amp, one of the amps i can look on for hours.. Listening to it might a bit more painfull, there were lots of issues with these amps.

I mostly ment to talk about some of the different amps i have in my amp collection, and show some pics, if there is a specifik amp i displayed that has your interest your welcome to bring it up.
Im in general not a great fan of multi channel setups, specially in small rooms like most HT. Ill rather prefer a optimized stereo setup with Q sound ability, to preserve room cupling phase and timing.
For a multi channel setup, specially atmos with more speakers than ever, ill think you can use anymost any amp as long as it can drive the speaker, as its a effect system, and not so much about sound quality.

Here is a pic to give a idea what im douing.. Having some acustic problems with this new room, so moved it all around yesterday to get a idea how that will work out.. Would be nice with a bigger room for the stereo setup.
