I might actually go to the theater for a Barbenheimer double feature at this point!

Will wait for home release on Barbie, but went to see Oppenheimer opening night last week (Thu) and it was excellent.

Watched " BarbenHeimer " last night. Oppenheimer first at our local IMAX, followed by Barbie in an adjoining theater. I'll be needing to buy Oppenheimer on 4K Blu-ray for a 2nd watch when it comes out. Excellent film. Barbie was silly, fun and touching at times. I was more interested in how our female movie watchers felt about Barbie (my wife and a couple of friends). They liked it.

One thing I found interesting is the fact I could see screen moire watching Barbie and some screen artifacts on the IMAX screen when the film panned.

Craig,

Did you find Barbie as emasculating as some people are saying?

Not really. Let's face it - our wives and mothers have faced a glass ceiling in the past in real life (my mother was expected to get a Home Economics' degree back in her day - not become a Doctor ), and the movie addresses that, but it also addresses that " Ken " is only an accessory of Barbie - like shoes. It cuts both ways. That and entertaining song and dance numbers. Will Farrell was pretty funny too - I liked his part. Overall it speaks to women but I found it fun as a guy. Set design in this thing is like being on acid!

And the casting in both films is perfect. Margot Robbie was the perfect choice for Barbie!

I've climbed El Capitan 5 times, own and am proficient with multiple firearms, and don't need Viagra at  age 67 ( they milk me for it monthly on Tuesdays ::) ). It would take more than this movie to emasculate me. Besides, my wife found it thought provoking in ways she never expected ( Oppenheimer too ).

That would either be horrible or some sort of black satire! Now that might emasculate me!

Too many people (on both sides) are searching for any little reason to get offended or hurt by something. It's exhausting. Just finished watching She-Hulk which got a lot of the same BS from the same folks, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Hilarious at times, really fun watch.

(That's not to say some things don't cross the line into that, however. Just not nearly as much as the mob whines about.)

I'll end up watching it, but a lot of shows/movies have gone too far and its nauseating. As long as there's a sense of balance, it doesn't bother me too much. My wife on the other hand, it makes her quite angry!

Everybody and then some is watching this movie regardless of any so called controvery.

From hollywoodreporter (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/barbie-box-office-billion-dollar-club-1235547643/),

Quote
The Greta Gerwig (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/greta-gerwig/)-directed movie, from Warner Bros., earned a spectacular $131.5 million at the global box office (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/box-office/) in its second weekend, including an estimated $93 million domestically and $122.2 million from 70 markets overseas (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/haunted-mansion-box-office-opening-haunted-mansion-1235547428/).

That puts Barbie‘s domestic total at $351.4 million. It has earned an equally impressive $423.1 million overseas for a worldwide booty of $774.5 million after just 12 days in release (movies begin rolling out midweek overseas).

Here's an interesting read on the summer blockbusters:  LINKY (https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/the-lessons-of-barbenheimer-and-sound-of-freedom/?lctg=6205bfcb089c0a12c73dde34&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MJ_20230801&utm_term=Jolt-Smart)

Warning...there is some "new" in the first teaser paragraph that can be skipped. The meat of the piece is an interesting take on the successful summer movies versus the duds.

You watched a fever dream biting social satire. Did you watch it with some women present? You'll get a different take if you ask women what they thought about it, which I found fascinating.

No watched it solo. My wife did watch it with my daughter and she said the same thing. Wtf was that?! Lol
