Another "yep".

The $10k RS2100 looks like it could steal orders from people looking at Sony's $20k VPL-VW915ES.

Same for the $15k RS3100 vs the $40k VW1025.

Wonder how Sony will respond - those models aren't very old, can they drop the price significantly already?

Wow - JVC actually showed a comparison chart with pricing in the webinar, directly comparing their new offerings vs "competition" (Sony without naming them) very proudly. As they should!

This just in - JVC is expecting to ship a SMALL quantity (no firm numbers yet) of RS2100, RS3100 and RS4100 projectors to us on the last day of November.

A second, slightly larger batch is expected to ship in the 2nd week of December and inventory might be up to snuff by the first of the year.

Some of the reviews of the RS4100 are looking fantastic. From the recent German review -

" Frame Interpolation

In "Tenet", we already like the crisp Warner Bros. logo with its rich red, panning into the picture. During the camera movements, the audience can be clearly seen in the opera. The conductor's tuxedo has all the elements present in the original. The ride on the catamaran not only impresses with its high vividness, thanks to the high ANSI/in picture contrast, but also with the natural movement representation. If the 24 Hz playback is already flawless without intermediate image calculation, the sharpness increases visibly with "Clear Motion Drive - Low" without the infamous soap opera effect occurring. On closer inspection, we can perceive minimal artifacts around the protagonist's head, which disappear completely when "Movement Improvement - High" is additionally selected. These circumstances are due to the fact that JVC was able to reprogram frame interpolation due to the further developed D-ILA chips. "

I am contemplating a Lumagen but obviously will wait to see if it has improved.

This is a yes and a no. I think the tone mapping is pretty much the same, but JVC has added an auto mode, more adjustments and the projectors have more light output. So HDR should be better on the new models. With that said, the Lumagen still does a better job and requires less light to do so. What I am saying, for JVC tone mapping to look about the same as Lumagen tone mapping you need a little more brightness on screen. Also, on the real tough scenes, the Lumagen outperforms the JVC alone.

It will be a good upgrade. Native 4K, laser and the improvements in HDR handling are going to be a good step up from your RS600.

Thanks Mike. How much more brightness do you think?
I should be running about 30fl after calibration according to calculators.
Also, my main reason for getting the Lumagen would be the better TM and the auto aspect feature. Is it a worthy purchase just for that?
Thanks.

Happy Black Friday!!

Regarding the new JVC projectors, a good friend of mine works for a distributor of JVC and was privy to a viewing of the 3100 & 4100!  He said they were game changers and will blow the Sony's at the same price point out of the water!  I'm ordering my NZ7/2100 next week, most likely with 160" Center Stage XD screen.....although Craig was kind enough to send me samples of the v6 and v7 so I might change my mind on screen material!?!?  Either way I couldn't be more excited about these JVC 2nd generation 4K (8K-eShift) Laser projectors!!!

I was about to order the NX7/RS2000 when my friend told me to wait and sure enough a month later JVC officially announced their new line!!!!!

Count me as a soon to be new owner of an RS2100.  Should be going to Kris for calibration soon and then on to me.  My theater is not nearly ready for installation of the projector, but this will provide even more incentive to get it done as soon as possible.  Looking forward to hearing initial opinions from others soon.

I see that these new projectors just barely exceed the weight limit for the Chief RPM mounts which I currently have. Especially when paired with a DCR lens. What is a good option for mounts for these projectors that is relatively inexpensive?

I just got back from CES. Saw Chris Deutsch and the JVC gang at The Venetian. The RS4100 looked great, as expected.
The biggest improvements over my RS4500 -

Motion looks better with 8K eshift on. No SOE.

Sync time - way faster! Like 2 - 3 seconds instead of 12 - 14 seconds.

High laser seemed really quiet. I could barely hear it at all. The exhaust air wasn't as hot.

The picture looked as sharp as my RS4500, watching 4K movies like Baby Driver. I couldn't see any sharpness difference.

Yessir. It’s how I paid for 90% of my Ht gear lol

I only play live. I’m terrible online for some reason.

I play 2/5 or 5/10 at Foxwoods. Hoping twin river opens its poker room again soon since it’s in the town I work in. And not a 1 hour drive like Foxwoods.

good luck in the wsop event! Run good!

A note regarding the new RS2100 / 3100 / 4100 JVC projectors and the DCR lens -

Please note that the Anamorphic C mode in the new JVC laser projector models does not extend to the full 4096 width at this time. JVC is aware of this and we estimate a firmware update in early June. I will keep you posted when this is available. In the meantime, you can use Anamorphic C with Zoom to fill the width for cinema format content even though that will crop about 6% of the content in the vertical direction. But at least this way you can set up the width properly on the screen during installations.

TLDR: Anyone have feedback on the Peerless PJR-125 mount, for the JVC RS2100?

The RS2100 is arriving today, and I'm desperately seeking a mount. Current one is a SNAP model rated at 50 lbs, which is a very common capacity but right at the weight of the JVC so I'd really like to update that.

I talked with Mike about the Crimson JR3 with the JVC plate and that'd be ideal but it's unavailable right now and uncertain about when it'll be back.

I jumped on a used (good as new) Chief VCMU which is a 250 lb rated mount, but didn't realize that thing itself is a huge beast. Makes sense of the weight rating but it's overkill so I'm sending it back.

Guy at B&H Photo gave me a couple of other options to look at, another Chief (VCTU - intended for 50-150 lb laser projectors) and a Peerless (PJR125 up to 125 lbs). Both seem solid on the surface, the Peerless is much less expensive. So I'm trying to find more info and feedback on the PJR125.

I was going to say the Crimson, but looks like supply chain has that one by you know what. I'm pretty sure your current mount can handle the extra weight though...it's only a few pounds over and I've seen 200 pound men hang from projector mounts with zero issues. Then again, there's no price on "peace of mind."

Talked to the local place that did the initial install in 2014 (with a Sony projector that I replaced in 2017 with the JVC RS500) and asked what they are using for a JVC RS2100. And... it's still the same mount they used in 2014. So David, your guess looks on the money.

I'm still going to get on the list for the next Crimson JR3 batch though, as I anticipate this being in place for a very long time. I used to see big enough improvements to upgrade every 3 years, then the RS500 took me >5 years and I expect the RS2100 to be up there for around a decade!

Got the RS2100 mounted (plus a 48Gbps rated HDMI cable) today and initial setup and checks all good. Of course will have some more setup and fine tuning to do and a good bit to learn.

However, I'm having a big problem with HDMI switching now. After running the RS2100 with DirecTV, a couple of things on AppleTV and then switching to a 4K Blu-ray, and back to AppleTV again, I powered it down and switched over to TV - and encountered a weird problem. The HDMI input is stuck on the last source played on the projector, in this case AppleTV.

I have the below setup:

Pre-pro: Anthem AVM-60 (2 HDMI outputs; one to the LG TV, the other to the RS2100)
TV: LG OLED65B7A
HDMI (to RS2100): RUIPRO 8K Fiber optic active (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092ZQ332Q)

I am wondering if the active fiber HDMI cable is causing a problem with the Anthem's HDMI switch. I've tested a couple of times now, and it seems when using the TV it stays stuck at the last source displayed on the projector. I've tried:

* Confirmed cable connections physically (only the 1 long cable to the JVC was changed, but just in case).
* Turned the AVM-60 on/off, then disconnected AC completely.
* Directly switched the inputs back & forth on AVM-60.
* When going back to the projector, source switching works as normal.

None of this seems to work. When using the TV as display, the HDMI source stays with whatever it was last showing on the projector.

Anyone have ideas or suggestions?

Update: I tried disconnecting the 8K cable from the AVM-60 - and it now switches the TV as normal. So at least that's a fairly easy workaround. I will also check if the RS2100 has a CEC control option that needs to be turned off. Also there are some inexpensive ($30 ish) 1->2 8K HDMI splitters out there that I may try.

Paul,

I've read of other people having issues with two HDMI outputs (not just a JVC projector either). The AVRs seem to get confused when two displays are connected, even though they aren't supposed to per the HDMI spec.

David - I talked to Mike and he brought up exactly that point. I've had 2 displays connected for a very long time as I've always had a "living room theater". It's never been an issue before with passive cables so I'm wondering if active does something.

Another possibility someone suggested I check, that I think is less likely is a CEC issue. I confirmed that is off in the Anthem (and has been since I got it basically), and I don't see CEC listed at all in the JVC manual but I'll take a look later.
