Panasonic 9000P1K and JVC 4100 Projector

I have the Panasonic 9000P1K 4k -layer. Its Video output Is connected to my Macintosh A/V processor which is connected to the JVC projector. I really Get a nice picture.

But every once in a while my dealer, and a few others, tells me that I should connect the Panasonic player directly to the projector, using a separate wire. 

I trust you guys. Would it really make a noticeable Difference if I did that? I’m actually happy with it now, but if it’s going to make it better, that would be great.

Barry,

At one time you were looking at video processors.  Is that still something you're considering?  That would give you more of the enhancement that you're looking for, but at a lot more cost than a second HDMI cable.

I thought you had been asking about a MadVR or Lumigan at one point.  While not as pricey as a Trinnov, they're many times the price of a cable.

You are absolutely right! I did ask about them. But as I recall, David said that with my screen being 110 inches it wouldn’t give me that much of an improvement. again, a new wire is so very cheap. It would be worth doing, but I don’t want to spend a lot of money to get a small improvement.

Screen size don’t have much to do with it. My screen is 120” and it’s a stark improvement. Probably the best addition I’ve ever made to the theater as far as picture quality. But def comes at a premium. But I know pj’s will come and go but the VP will always be part of it so makes the cost more justified

I believe that Barry has a 16x9 screen (correct me if I'm wrong Barry) and one of the best benefits of a VP is the ability to change aspect ratios "on the fly" with the auto detection. Yes, it can make calibration more accurate (and easier for the calibrator) and can improve the image, but a VP isn't for everyone.

Everything is run through it. Barry, do you have a scope screen or a 16x9 screen? 

You can hook it up yourself, but there is a VERY steep learning curve to it. You would probably want to hire someone to set it up. Before even thinking of upgrading, I'd go and watch a demo of it in person to see if it's worth the $$.

It’s 16 x 9.  David, I’m unclear on one thing here. If I put up a movie that is not 16 x 9 I get White at the top and bottom which I don’t see in the dark. so what is the benefit of the aspect change?

If you have a 2.35:1 screen that's the same height as you current screen, then when you watch 16x9 films it would be exactly the same as you're watching now. When a scope film comes on, instead of having black bars at the top and bottom of the image, the movie will fill up the entire screen and the black boxes would disappear.

Either a Lumagen or a MadVR Envy Core are outstanding products to use and will make a difference in your system, but like a lot of things in the A/V world, the law of diminishing returns comes into play. I've kicked the tires on both products, but just can't seem to pull the trigger. Now if the stock market goes up 25% this year, then maybe I'll revisit it

seriously, my big problem too is that I actually like the picture I get on my 4100. I almost can’t believe I can get a better picture. I just wonder if there’s a local store where I can actually see the difference.

honestly, I’ve discussed recently with my brother that we never expected to get a picture as good as we have now on our screens. We love movies and we love seeing them on our system,. and hearing them.
