Actually, I am saddened by this. People are unique and we shouldn’t be able to copy them. Stan gave me the highest rank of a Marvel Fan And we emailed each other. I was a F.F.F. A Fearless Face Fronter. He often forgot what he had written in the 1960s and 70s and would ask me about that.

What they are doing with his image invoice is not only distasteful. It’s creepy. this illustration of mine was published when we lost Stan. it’s bottom caption tells you how I feel.
Kind of off tangent to AI, but deeply related to Stan Lee, did you ever follow this documentary?

The implications and footage are deeply alarming, although it echoes rumors that were circulating when he was still alive.  It's just landed a distributor and release date, according to this article from The Hollywood Reporter:  Stan Lee Documentary 'The Final Chapter' Lands Distribution

The extent of the alleged abuse was covered back at the time, including in another article by The Hollywood Reporter back in 2018:  Stan Lee Needs a Hero: Elder Abuse Claims and a Battle Over the Aging Marvel Creator

If true, it would explain why the estate is so in favor or digitally reanimating Lee.

I would expect the documentary to hit streaming by the end of the year, although not on Disney+.

That's actually a pretty cool idea for a fan film. I've always wondered what Luke was up to between Empire and Return of the Jedi, and getting his green lightsaber seems like a story worth exploring. :D The sound design is what usually makes or breaks these Star Wars projects for me. You can have great visuals, but if the lightsabers sound off, it just feels weird. It's pretty wild how much fans can do now without a massive budget. I'd love to see more little stories like this instead of everything having to be some huge galactic adventure

Lest anyone think this is just for fantasy and Sci Fi stuff, it can be used for anything.

Here's a sample from five months ago that brings The Office into the current day:

There are telltale indications, like the lettering on signs in the background and Stanly looks a bit too young, but they've nailed the style and the humor is actually fitting and funny.

The possibilities are startling.

Here's an interesting cross-cultural example in line with the thread Barry started this week:

The tools are quickly changing.  Models are becoming more consistent and libraries are being developed, which will help solve the continuity problems.  The possibility of creating these things locally is on the horizon at which point it will be impossible to govern.  That has all kinds of potentially negative implications.  Copyright laws become immaterial.  Deep fakes were a hot topic for a number of years, but this offers the possibility of all kinds of unscrupulous creations, some best left unimagined.

A similar thing is happening on the video game front which will open up all kinds of possibilities for new settings and storylines.

Agreed.  I couldn't find any information on whether the script was written by a human or also generated by AI, but whoever did it nailed the personalities.  The Dwight portion is practically indistinguishable from real life.   Rainn Wilson's portrayal appears to be perfect fodder for AI.

Be careful with that, she could do the same thing to you.  ;D

It does raise the serious question about what we're going to be able to believe in the future.

A great example is the Tesla flying car footage that was released yesterday.  There was a lot of skepticism about it merely being AI.

I think all AI should be required to put a watermark within the footage to leave a fingerprint of where it came from. I hate government intervention, but imagine a video showing up in court showing a spouse cheating with another man/woman that is taken as authentic?

Although I did think of a good use of AI a few minutes ago. The lightsaber fight in Episode IV is a total joke compared to the rest of the movies (especially Episode III). It would be great to see a real fight between Ben and Vader that's more than just the two of them touching swords (this came up because the movie is currently on cable :)).

Edit....it turns out someone already did, but it wasn't with AI...just a fan with passion:

This is a huge concern.  It's election season now and there are plenty of political ads that are openly using AI and I suspect that there are others that don't disclose it.

Now, imagine a fabricated video coming out days before the election showing Candidate X in compromising situations that makes its way through the social media rounds.  It's not hard to swing the electorate by enough votes to determine the winner, and what recourse is there once it's later to be discovered that it's fake?

In general, fraud is a problem.  This just amplifies the possibilities.

You are absolutely right. I live in New York and our governor is running for reelection. her opposing candidate is using AI and ads that feature the governor saying things that the governor never said. Apparently this is legal.
