Very rare for my wife to agree to go to the theater. And she is not very open to a lot of movies, plus super, uh, "price sensitive" so for too much of our movie time, I end up watching some crap with her b/c it's free on streaming somewhere.

That's a good point.  I'm lucky in that my wife is extremely tolerant with what she's willing to watch.  And our library system has a surprisingly large variety of titles that they're stocking, including some really obscure titles that may never have even hit theater.

I'm fortunate in that I've never had to watch a movie on my own in our theater, other than to rewatch for sound and video stuff (which she doesn't find interesting enough to sit through).  It would much less fun to watch them alone.

Lucky for me my wife doesn't mind if I watch movies she isn't interested in with our friends - many of which like some of my more wacked titles. I've got 14 different friends that like coming over to watch movies, and cycle through 2 - 6 at a time.

For those of you that can't get your wives to watch movies with you, how do you justify the cost of all the home theater equipment to them?  Do they give you a lot of flak when you want to upgrade?

My wife enjoys the theater as much as I do, although she has no interest in the components whatsoever.  She just wants to sit back and watch the movie, which is fine with me.  (It helps a lot when discussing budgets.)

 That's the great thing about using the library, there's no monetary cost at all, just the small amount of time to reserve and pick up titles.  It's a zero-risk way of checking out more obscure titles.  

You could try that out to get around the free streaming junk.

She knows it’s a hobby I enjoy. Plus I usually flip products I find to fund my upgrades. Disclosure is I haven’t upgraded in nearly 5 years. So there that. But I could be a drinker with my buddies dropping hundred at the bar every weekend. Instead I have a HT hobby. Keeps me home

My wife enjoys our system when it's a movie that she wants to watch. She has been very patient over the years watching a lot films she had no interest in but I had to review. Now I'm much more choosy about what I request and run it by her first. If she's not up to it, I still may request it if I have interest, but I'll watch that alone when she has other plans. For example, I watched "Se7en" today, and while she's seen that film twice, she didn't want to watch it a third time due to the graphic images, so I watched it alone today (my last day of vacation until going back to work on Monday...that's going to suck ). I should have a review up tomorrow.
