Movie Ticket prices

First, well, I can have a close friends over, they would never agree on what movie to see! I do enjoy the experience of going to the theatre with friends and enjoying a movie.

I also enjoy reading that people who have spent thousands of dollars on their home theatre say that going to the movie theatre is too expensive.🙃

I pick the movie in advance and throw it out there. My friends decided if they want to join me. There is never any picking a movie in my house. Except if it's just my wife. 

I don't go to commercial theaters because it's too expensive. I'd rather watch movies at home with my limited time and go out to eat if I'm going somewhere.

Similar thing here, except I'll give them a list of movies to choose from, so they're certain to see something they want to watch.  And since it's from our personal collection, we're sure to see something we like (unless it's a new release).

For nights when it's just the two of us, we take turns choosing.

This is a true story!!!
 
Growing up we had neighbors who we called “Uncle Max” and “Aunt Gert.” They spent $1,000 on a long piece of living room furniture that had several parts. One part had a bar, another an actual refrigerator, a record player, an am/fm radio/speakers at each end and a 25 inch color TV in the middle!
 
In today’s money, that would be about $10,000. There was no VCR then, no cable, no dvds, you just got see old movies on our local station, cut up and interrupted by commercials.  And Saturday Night at the Movies.  Well, Uncle Max declared that he will never to the movies again because they don’t make good movies anymore. He only wanted to see movies from the 1940s and 1950s.
 
One reason that he did not like “modern” movies is that they cut them up so badly to be broadcast they often didn’t make sense.
 
The world has changed several times since then.  I enjoy the social aspect of seeing a movie in a theatre with friends, which usually means we have dinner out.  And I enjoy seeing a movie with them on my home theatre.  We paid $7 each to see the last Dr Strange movie in 3D at my AMC Dolby theatre. It was $12 for Ant-Man. We do NOT get their watered down sodas or their week old popcorn that are so expensive you need a credit check before you can buy them.
