Review of the JVC RS4100

Can you explain what the lumagen is, how it works and how you got Kris to do it? He did my 3000, but I haven’t gotten him to answer my email about the 4100

Compared to the RS3000, any difference in HDMI resync times when there is a resolution or frame rates change?

On my NX7 (RS2000), sync times were typically 10 seconds at a minimum, usually 15 or so. With the NZ9, they're usually in the 3-5 second range, so much improved. That's actually one of the benefits I was looking forward to!

 have had my JVC RS4100 for about ten days. It replaced my JVC3000. The 3000 was a darn good unit, but I wished it projected brighter (the lamp was on high)  and was quieter. I believe that my previous projector, JVC  DLA-RS66U, had a brighter picture than the 3000, with the lamp on medium..
 
Well, my hopes were answered. The 4100 has a brighter, more colorful and detailed image, and I have it on “mid.” It is also so much quieter. I use it with four inputs, 14 feet away from a Stuarts Film screen 130. I was happy with the 3000, but this is just so much better.
 
I am NOT a professional and one to do the calibrations. I have primary professional settings, but it will be professional calibrated in a week.
 
Panasonic 9000: Wow. There is just greater brightest, color, contrast and detail in the image.  4K movies look great, but 4K nature discs (Planet Earth II and such) ae outstanding. I have alternated between using the HDR Source settings and the Panasonic settings that are both in the projector. Haven’t gotten a preference yet, both are close. (I like the Filmmakers setting for Picture type).
 
Verizon Cable TV: I use the HDR picture here and get a damn good picture, though not close to Panasonic. Colors, contrast and sharpness are very good and better than the 3000.
 
Mediasonic Homework HW-150PVR: This is an over the air TV tuner attached to an outdoor antenna. I have had the antenna for over 20 years for cable failures and to get out of state broadcasts of sporting events. This was my biggest surprise! I could ever get my 3000 to work well with it. But, when I set the 4000 to “SDR” I get an incredible, beautiful picture, better than cable. And better sound too! Broadcast TV is so much better than we think!
 
Apple TV: I did not get a much better picture here and the images varied between inputs such as Hulu, Netflix, Disney, HBO etc. While Hulu seemed the best, it depended on what show we were watching on all the streaming services. And the audio on streaming is just not impressive.

 In just a while I will be putting my overview of the JVC 4100 now that it has been professionally configured.  But in reading the interesting and helpful comments here, I wanted to share my point of view.
 
While in the past I was the guy who everyone asked to set up their stereo and video equipment, both at home and professionally, that was long ago.  I now, need professional help to set up the surround equalization of my audio equipment and projectors.
 
I am not interested in the technology much anymore, I am interested in seeing the movies as if I was in a theatre and to hear the best music and sound out of my speakers.
 
When someone says, “Come over I want you to hear my new speakers” or “See my new TV,” well, that’s not so much for me anymore. But I enjoy when someone says, “Come listen to Miles Davis on my new system” or come see “2001, A Space Odyssey”  well, that interests me.
 
I realize that to get the best picture and sound I have to be alert to what is out there and that is why this site is a huge help.  So it’s kind of like saying, “I like to drive,” or “I like to go places, but I don’t know much about cars.” Which is most people.
 
So when I put up my observations it won’t be very technical. Just how it looks and sounds and how easy it is to use.

 My JVC RS4100 now that it has been installed and calibrated. Dan, was the qualified installer who set up the projector and made a few basic settings and I got a wonderful picture, but the “Auto” functions needed to be set. Kevin, the calibrator, came two weeks later and did a great job.
Kevin worked 4 hours on my unit, using a camera and a computer. While JVC and Dan had made general settings ,Kevin said he fined tuned everything. So many things were taken off AUTO, such as Screen Adjustments, and then were given very exacting settings. But I am not totally satisfied 
Panasonic 9000: Kevin did NOT use the Panasonic settings in the JVC, instead he used HDR10. What surprised me is that he went into the Panasonic and made several changes there.
Apple TV: As with the Panasonic, Kevin made many changes in the Apple TV own settings. The picture is good, however it does vary a bit from App to App and movie to movie.
Broadcast TV: This surprises people, but broadcast TV gives a great SDR picture. It is bright and colorful, but certainly not as detailed as 4k, but really very good.
Verizon Cable: This took a bit more time than you’d think. Kevin had trouble matching up the Verizon settings with the unit and this was a bit of trial and error. The picture looks good,, but a bit dark. Some channels look better than others.
While everything now is set on the “Auto Settings” I have to manual change settings on cable. I recommend this projector .

 
On several facebook pages they say that the settings here are very wrong. I don't know what to do.  I would like a better contrast image.  I don't know of any other calibrator in my area of NY>
