Apple TV4K audio problem

Apple TV4K audio problem
« on: July 25, 2022, 08:08:02 AM »
Long time no chat to everyone on this forum.  Hope all are well and healthy!  I am experiencing problems when using my Apple tv 4k-Lumagen-Marantz in my HT.  I am hearing a crackling/popping noise in the background at nearly all times.

Has anyone else experienced this, if so are there any fixes?   TIYA

Which year/model is your ATV 4K? 2018 or 2021? I'd try contacting Apple Support, especially if it's the newer one.

I've had some audio issues recently with my 2021 model but it's occasional dropouts, not something continuous. I did end up contacting Apple Support and having a long conversation with a guy there. I actually had 2 problems to discuss, the primary one being that every 2-5 days it would not be able to start playing video until a reboot. That seems to have been solved by assigning the ATV a static IP address. That didn't affect the audio dropouts though, and neither did switching to a certified 48Gbps cable. (He rabbit holed for 45 minutes on HDMI issues.)

I have the older version.   I was contemplating buying a newer version but seems that since nothing has changed in my setup that shouldn't be necessary.

FYI - I looked up the "repair" rates chart for Apple TV during my earlier chat. It's nearly or even more than the price to just buy a new one, depending on the current price of a new one. I.e. on Prime Day there was a deal for the normally $169 32GB model at $109 or $129 depending on timing, either of which is actually cheaper than Apple's $149 repair charge.

I doubt they even repair the damn things...the "repair shop" probably transfers your data to a new device :)

Yeah that's why I put repair in quotes. Probably a refurb.
