Bringing a tear to your eyes
« on: December 13, 2020, 12:22:59 AM »
We discuss action-adventure films all the time, but here is a switch: Are there any movies that, as an adult, brought tears to your eyes? (Bambi did it when I was a kid). There are probably more, but four did it for me.

Field of Dreams:
At the end, when Kevin Costner has a catch with his father, who was wearing a Yankee cap. Just as my father did.

Schindler’s List:
I actually prepared myself for this, but the last ten minutes of the movie…well, I lost it.

Toy Story II:
“When She Loved Me.”  This was just a cartoon about toys, but this got to me.

Star Wars: The Lat Jedi:
Simply, at the end credits this appeared and it got to me: “ "In Loving Memory of Our Princess, Carrie Fisher." May the force be with you, Carrie.

Good list. Agree with your thoughts above.

I can't remember a lot that have moved me but a few like "Green Mile" and "Up" come to mind.

Totally agree Barry on your choices. The Toy Story song gets me every time too even though I've seen that movie hundreds of times (literally, my son watched it every day for nearly 2 years when he was a kid...he LOVED Buzz Lightyear!).

Les Miserables.  Seeing the play, listening to the Music alone, or the movie.  Every. Single. Time.

Yes on Toy Story. The scene where Andy's toys find a new home gets me as well as the first time I saw Dobbie the (Free) House Elf die on Harry Potter.

WOW, my testosterone must be low. ::)

How about in Toy Story 3 when all the toys are headed towards the incinerator? Gets me every time.

I've been rewatching LOTR with the new 4K release. There are 3 scenes that always make me tear up in different ways.

TTT: When Gimli tells Eowyn that Aragorn has fallen, her reaction really gets me. (Kudos Miranda Otto on a restrained by very effective portrayal of how gutted she feels.)
TTT: The arrival and charge of Gandalf and the Rohirrim.
ROTK: When the signal fires are lit and the swirling panoramic views follow them across the mountain range.

Another LOTR scene is the end of Fellowship when Sam refuses to let Frodo leave alone. Always tears me up.
