Good Sequels
« on: December 09, 2020, 02:58:37 PM »
In viewing Godfather Coda I realized that I sort of expected it to be as good as Godfather I and II.  I began to think how many sequels neared, or exceeded the quality of the originals.  And how #3 seldom does.

I also thought: what is a sequel TO ME. That is I do not think of Patriot Games as a squeal to The Hunt for Red October because the production was so different. But you can disagree.

Here is my list of good sequels:

Godfather II was as good as I.
Donner’s Superman and his Superman II
Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein.
Star Trek II was better than I. and 4, 6 and 8 were good movies.
Terminator I and II. The rest were not very good.
Star Wars and the Empire Strikes Back, although Return of the Jedi was on the same level.
Dr. No was followed by From Russia with Love and Goldfinger
Batman Begins and the Dark Knight
I liked Thor III better than the originals.
Captain America I, II, III,
Avengers I, III, IV
Logan was better than Wolverine I or II
Toy Story I, II, III, IV. I liked II best.
Before Sunrise and Before Midnight
Spider-Man I and II not III
Alien and Aliens

Lord of the Rings is like one really long movie to me.

I am not a fan of Harry Potter or Hunger games so they are not listed.

What do you think?

There wasn't enough room on the internet to list the bad ones.

Great list Barry. I like the first two Die Hard movies too, although I think the first is slightly better than the second.

Good list Barry.

I always thought Christmas Vacation which was the third behind the original Vacation and European Vacation was better and funnier from the 2nd one..

Friday the 13th part 1 and 2 were the only good one's in this franchise. Maybe part 3 if you like 3d. Rest were no good.

Deadpool 2 is in my opinion better than 1.

I liked John Wick 2 better than 1, but 3, not as much as 1. Although I need to watch it again.

Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome were both better than Mad Max.

I don't consider Fury Road a real sequel, though, so I didn't include it.

Also, Hellboy II was as good as, if not better than, Hellboy.

I only saw " Flesh Gordon " ( rated X at the time - pretty mild today ) and " Alice In Wonderland " - the X rated version. The Mad Hatter had a " 12 " on his hat - " that's not the size of his hat, honey ". ::)
