so kind of realized where i wired for the side surrounds will be slightly (maybe 20 degrees tops) in front of the MLP....is that an issue?  should i rewire?

this is a 7.4.4 Atmos configuration using Volt 6's as surrounds

but i DID wire all my Atmos volt 6's and wired up my wall plates and entire rack....played some atmos tracks with the ceiling speakers only engaged...and man was that fun!  LOVING the higher ceilings and properly separated atmos speakers....this is gonna be awesome.....also really an eye opener of how important subwoofers are lol

You will be fine. I know a whole group of guys that intentionally place their side surrounds this way.

So I hooked up

The ceiling speakers for atmos.  And played some demo clips. Omg. It sounds so much more realistic being higher and spread out more! And it was missing the 7 speakers ear level lol

Getting exciting

Carpets in! And as usual it’s actually darker than pics. Looks great.

Still can’t get over the size difference an extra 3’ makes.

So logistically I had to move the speakers and seats onto the theater so I could make room to finish the rest of the basement (more mudding and taping yay!) but it feels great to have most setup again! Hooked up the front three speakers and for good measure put the PJ in its cubby :)

Now for some pics. The bald guy is my buddy who owns the carpet business. Helping me install the carpet. Good to have friends!

Next up...(while finished the rest of the basement so the wife doesn’t kill me)

-Build minimalist screen wall and screen
-install backing for crown and base moulding
- Install surround speakers and wire. Along with subs
-build and install wall treatments and fabric panels
-build and install masking for screen wall
-install crown and base moulding
-install door and add treatment to it

Enjoy first movie. Any bets on how long that will all take??

:)

I like how you say your buddy is helping you install the carpet and then post pics of only him working! 🤣

Nice job so far. I wish I could do this stuff myself. Thinking of moving and my wife keeps looking at me strange when I bee line for the basements! 🤷🏼

thanks for the kind words!  that was my favorite part of house hunting....looking at the spaces available in the basement and thinking if it would work for a HT

No basements here in CA, but I looked for rooms that would work when we were house hunting. Turns out a bonus room over a 2+ car garage works perfectly too !
